La Storia
Dopo Rhea, Acqua Tofana è il secondo brano parte della mia trilogia di mitologia moderna; una serie di canzoni ispirate a donne del passato, ma con temi ancorati nel presente. In particolare, Acqua Tofana è una canzone che richiama due figure associate alla lotta contro il patriarcato: quella mitologica della maga Circe, e quella storica di Giulia Tofana.
La scelta di Circe come personaggio centrale si lega direttamente al concept del brano: un incantesimo nascosto dietro tentazioni, con lo scopo di manipolare chi ha tentato di avere il controllo sulla nostra libertà di esprimerci. Circe porta alla luce temi che non hanno mai smesso di essere rilevanti, specialmente negli ultimi anni; in questa chiave, la strega diventa un simbolo di potere e di riscatto.
Dall’altro lato della medaglia, invece, c’è Giulia Tofana. Per quanto controversa, la storia di Giulia è una che rispecchia molto il mito di Circe. Una donna che non solo rivendica il suo diritto di esistere in quanto tale, ma che aiuta altre donne nella sua stessa posizione a liberarsi da catene di oppressione patriarcale. Oggi, a oltre 400 anni di distanza, Giulia Tofana è diventata un simbolo di rivalsa femminile, una figura ambigua, ma potentissima, riscoperta soprattutto in tempi recenti. In particolare negli Stati Uniti, dopo la rielezione di Donald Trump—condannato per violenza sessuale—molte donne hanno riportato alla luce la storia di Tofana, proprio per denunciare l’assenza di vie legali contro la violenza patriarcale che, ancora oggi, troppo spesso resta impunita.
Entrambe le figure sono spesso demonizzate nell’immaginario collettivo, ma qui vengono volutamente rivalutate. Nell’insieme del progetto, l’idea è proprio quella di reclaim quei simboli negativi storicamente associati alle donne, trasformandoli in un segno di potere, consapevolezza e autonomia. La donna al centro del video diventa così il riflesso del brano stesso, che si muove tra l’incanto e il pericolo, evocando l’energia di un richiamo ipnotico, quasi fosse un canto di sirena. Nella canzone racconto una donna forte che usa la seduzione con consapevolezza. Non si scusa per il suo potere e non rimane in silenzio. Quando ho scoperto per caso la storia di Giulia Tofana durante un tour a Roma, ho sentito subito un legame: era esattamente la strega che immaginavo mentre scrivevo. Così ho deciso di darle corpo e voce con questo brano.

The Story
Following Rhea, Acqua Tofana is the second chapter in my trilogy of modern mythology—a series of songs inspired by women from the past but rooted in present-day themes. Specifically, Acqua Tofana draws from two figures associated with resistance against patriarchy: the mythological witch Circe, and the historical figure Giulia Tofana.
I chose Circe as the central character because her story directly ties into the song’s concept: a spell disguised as temptation, aimed at manipulating those who try to control our freedom of expression. Circe’s story continues to resonate, especially in recent years—here, she becomes a symbol of power and reclaiming agency.
On the other side of the coin stands Giulia Tofana. Though controversial, her story mirrors Circe’s myth in many ways. A woman who not only claimed her right to exist but also helped other women break free from patriarchal oppression. Today—over 400 years later—Giulia Tofana has become a symbol of female defiance: an ambiguous but powerful figure, rediscovered particularly in recent years. After Donald Trump’s re-election—despite being found liable for sexual abuse—many women in the U.S. revived Giulia’s story to highlight the ongoing lack of legal protection against patriarchal violence, which still often goes unpunished.
Both figures have been demonized in popular culture, but here, they are intentionally reimagined. This entire project aims to reclaim these historically negative female symbols, transforming them into icons of power, awareness, and autonomy. The woman at the center of the music video reflects this very idea—moving between allure and danger, evoking the hypnotic pull of a siren’s song. The track tells the story of a powerful woman who consciously uses seduction. She doesn’t apologize for her power—and she refuses to stay silent.
When I stumbled upon Giulia Tofana’s story during a tour in Rome, I felt an instant connection. She was exactly the kind of “witch” I had imagined while writing the song—so I decided to embody her voice through this track.

Il Brano
L’ispirazione iniziale per il testo nasce da una scena del film cult Hocus Pocus, in cui i bambini, stregati dal canto delle sorelle Sanderson, camminano nel bosco in trance. Ho immaginato di sostituire quei bambini con una processione di uomini, anch’essi ipnotizzati da un incantesimo: il ritornello, che funziona come un richiamo, li attira con le parole come back home. “Tornare a casa", in questo contesto, non è un rifugio: è un richiamo rituale, un ritorno al luogo dove la Strega li "benedirà" con un sortilegio, come se fossero uomini “andati a male”. Le strofe, invece, sono costruite come un confronto diretto: è come se un uomo fosse seduto davanti alla Strega, mentre lei lo osserva, lo smaschera e domina.
Nel culmine dell’incantesimo, la musica si spezza: scompare la base, rimangono solo le voci. Il rituale è completo. Si ritorna al ritornello: Calling all my boys back home, che ora suona come il richiamo definitivo dell' incantesimo; viene ripreso con più forza e decisione, la magia ha funzionato.

The Song
The initial inspiration for the lyrics came from a scene in the cult film Hocus Pocus, where the children, bewitched by the Sanderson Sisters' song, walk through the woods in a trance. I imagined replacing those children with a procession of men—likewise hypnotized by a spell. The chorus acts as that enchantment, drawing them in with the words come back home. In this context, "coming home" isn’t a safe haven—it’s a ritual call, bringing them back to the place where the Witch will “bless” them with a curse, as if they were “rotten” men.
The verses, however, unfold as a direct confrontation—as though a man were seated across from the Witch, while she watches, unmasks, and dominates him.
At the height of the spell, the music breaks down—leaving only the voices. The ritual is complete. The chorus returns: Calling all my boys back home, now sounding like the definitive chant of the enchantment—repeated with more strength and conviction. The magic has worked.

Produzione e Moodboard
Seguendo il testo della canzone, il video musicale mostrerà la figura di una Strega intenta a gestire la sua bottega. La vediamo mescolare liquidi, dosare ingredienti, etichettare boccette. Una di queste reca la scritta Acqua Tofana, accompagnata da un’illustrazione di San Nicola di Bari. La Strega riceve donne nella sua bottega, clienti velate e misteriose che ricevono le boccette in segreto. Ripercorrendo la storia a cui il brano si ispira, la Strega viene eventualmente scoperta per via della mancata premura di una cliente, e trascinata fino ad un lago da figure maschili ed imponenti. Lei non protesta, ma sorride, sicura nella sua rivalsa. Ed è proprio questa rivalsa a cui finiamo per essere testimoni– la Strega riemerge dal lago, rinata, ballando al ritmo della canzone: l’incantesimo stesso che porterà I suoi persecutori a trasformarsi in maiali.

Production & Moodboard
Following the song’s lyrics, the music video will portray the Witch working in her shop. We see her mixing liquids, measuring ingredients, and carefully labeling bottles. One of them bears the name Acqua Tofana, accompanied by an illustration of Saint Nicholas of Bari.
Mysterious, veiled women visit the shop, receiving these potions in secret. In line with the historical narrative that inspired the song, the Witch is eventually discovered—exposed by the carelessness of one of her clients—and dragged away by imposing male figures toward a lake.
She doesn’t resist—she smiles, confident in her impending revenge.
This revenge is what we ultimately witness: the Witch rises from the lake, reborn, dancing to the rhythm of the song—the very spell that transforms her persecutors into pigs.

Sono Ilenia, in arte Haleyn MSK , un alter-ego nato dal mio desiderio di creare musica che rispecchi le mie esperienze tramite storytelling auditorio e visivo. Ho un percorso artistico radicato in una visione DIY, dove l’intuizione e l’espressione personale guidano ogni fase del processo creativo. Tramite i miei testi miro a creare spazi intimi di espressione emotiva e affermazione identitaria, esplorando spesso la forza femminile e celebrando donne indipendenti, sensibili e resilienti.
Il risultato è un paesaggio sonoro ricco di texture sperimentali, voci ipnotiche e atmosfere immersive — sospese tra realtà e immaginazione. Dopo aver vissuto a Seoul e viaggiato a lungo, ho collaborato con produttori attivi tra Soul, R&B, Trap underground, e sonorità latine. Tutto ciò ha modellato uno stile ibrido e in continua trasformazione: una fusione di generi e culture vissuta con autenticità e libertà.

I’m Ilenia, also known as Haleyn MSK—a musical alter ego born from my desire to create songs that reflect my personal experiences through both auditory and visual storytelling. My artistic journey is deeply rooted in a DIY vision, where intuition and personal expression guide every step of the creative process.
Through my lyrics, I aim to create intimate spaces for emotional expression and self-affirmation, often exploring themes of female strength and celebrating independent, sensitive, and resilient women.
The result is a rich sonic landscape filled with experimental textures, hypnotic vocals, and immersive atmospheres—suspended between reality and imagination.
After living in Seoul and traveling extensively, I’ve collaborated with producers working across soul, R&B, underground trap, and Latin-inspired sounds. These experiences have shaped an ever-evolving, hybrid style—a fusion of genres and cultures, approached with authenticity and freedom.
