Donate For Albemarle County Teacher Appreciation

Thank you generous community!  This fundraiser has concluded, but Families Helping Families welcomes donations at our website.

Additional funds will be put toward a new “Teachers and Schools Fund”.  Donations will benefit ACPS schools and programs into the 2022-23 school year. These funds will be dedicated to classroom supplies & materials, teacher professional development, school libraries, and teacher appreciation. Priority will be given to schools with the greatest need as measured by family economic resources (students qualifying for free & reduced lunch), and inability of PTOs to fill gaps or supplement school budgets. The fund will be open to all ACPS schools and programs regardless of PTO status, and will directly address the FHF mission of increasing equity across ACPS schools.

Teachers in Albemarle County need your support! A national NEA poll found that 55% of teachers are seriously considering leaving the profession. Burnout is especially high amongst teachers serving the most vulnerable kids. Our families need high-quality teachers, but not all schools have families able to fund teacher appreciation… we need our community’s help.

Families Helping Families is fundraising to support Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6) for:

 - Secondary schools without active Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs), including Albemarle HS, Walton MS, and Burley MS.
 - Elementary schools with the highest percentages of working families, prioritizing: Scottsville ES and Red Hill ES.
 - Teachers at non-traditional programs who are rarely acknowledged: virtual school, substitute pool, Blue Ridge Detention Center, Post High, Center One, CATEC, Ivy Creek School, and Center for Learning & Growth.

We also need volunteers! Visit our SignUpGenius. Lots of opportunities, from writing thank you cards or creating posters, or calling local businesses for teacher discounts. Or, join our community gatherings to meet families post-pandemic and create some “thank you” postcards!

A few quick notes:
 - When you donate online, you will be given an option to “tip”. This amount does not go to Families Helping Families, but to the platform provider, so it is truly optional!
 - Checks are welcome. See the FAQ for specifics.
 - FHF is now an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your donations will be tax deductible… and you’ll receive a receipt.
