Friends in Support of Holly Machi

Donation protected
I've never understood the deep desperation, sorrow, or feeling of helplessness that the authors of GoFundMe campaigns feel. I do now. If you are reading this, I beg you to please keep reading and consider donating to help.

My dear friend Holly turned 50 this year. I remember it well. All of the "old" jokes and talk of wrinkle cream. Now having been diagnosed with stage IV adenocarcinoma of the lungs with metastases... 50 doesn't seem old at all. It's far too young.

Holly started a new job at the beginning of October... around that same time, she developed a nagging cough. "Great, I'm starting a new job and now this!" It seemed like a simple cold, and she'd had no prior symptoms. Two weeks went by and she was treated for bronchitis with antibiotics,  then later had a chest x-ray after no improvement, followed by a CAT scan. Multiple COVID tests were administered. Blood work. This week, just 5 weeks after her first symptoms began, she was hospitalized over an hour's drive from home at The Cleveland Clinic. Her husband has been driving to see her daily while caring for their children at home. Through it all, he is continuing to somehow work because bills don't stop even when you're wife receives a unimaginable diagnosis.

At the beginning of what we now know will inevitably be a long medical journey toward healing, Holly said to me, "I don't know how we're ever going to afford this." At that point, she'd only missed a few days of work. As a lung patient, working with the public in the medical field will never be ideal during a pandemic, even if she is feeling well enough to return to her job in the months ahead. Right now, it's impossible.

The need for monetary help for this family is tremendous. Not only will there be medical bills and deductibles to pay, but her household income intended to pay bills, a mortgage, and feed children has been paused, despite the fact that those bills will continue to pile up.

Please help me lift this financial burden off of Holly and her family. This will be one less major worry as Holly focuses all of her energy on healing. Any and all donation amounts are appreciated, and we are forever grateful for the support. Even a small donation will help purchase a much-needed cup of coffee for her tired husband as he drives over an hour each way to see Holly after working and caring for their children at home. A few bucks will help put gas in the tank of the car to and from treatments once she returns home.

Every dollar helps. Every dollar is a dollar they won't have to worry about during this time that is filled with so much worry, uncertainty, and angst.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. I know that Holly appreciates every thought, wish, and prayer.
