From childhood’s hour I have not been

As others were—I have not seen
As others saw—I could not bring
My passions from a common spring

                                                         -Edgar Allan Poe, "Alone"

Film Synopsis:

Everett is a man on fire. Literally. His perpetual flames are an affliction that prevents him from being close to anyone. He burns everyone he touches. But when Everett's co-worker sets him up on a blind date with an equally isolated woman named Cosette, he must overcome his fears to find a connection with another human being. However, Cosette has a secret of her own that might just change everything.

Statement of Intent from Nathan Weinreich, Writer and Director of A Common Spring:

A Common Spring is a short flm that delves into the mind of someone suffering from extreme isolation. It reflects the experiences of anyone who believes they possess any condition that might cause a disconnect between them and the outside world. Everett's flames are a placeholder for any number of these causes; anxiety, depression, fear of rejection, take your pick. In depicting a character with such an affliction while externalizing his problem visually, I hope to help spread an understanding of people like him, and me, and to encourage everyone to face those fears that get in the way of their relationships.

While the film masquerades under the guise of a romance, it is not meant to focus only on love. Instead, the main theme of the film is growth and hope. I want to push the idea that not everybody fits into a cookie cutter mould as society or entertainment media might have it, and to celebrate this individuality. Everett is not meant to be a prince charming, nor is Cosette a perfect princess. Instead, they are both characters with challenges that they must overcome, just as we all are in life.

This film has become a passion project of mine. The script's first draft was finished in October of 2016, with constant rewrites and polishing since then. After its completion, the film will be entered in the film festival circuit with the hopes of gaining exposure and much deserved recognition for its key contributors. With your help, I know we will make an amazing film!

Why we need your help with funding:

Besides the things you see onscreen (actors, costumes, locations, etc.), your money will be put towards everything that goes into the day-to-day process of making a film. This includes feeding the cast and crew, renting the equipment, renting or purchasing props, and creating the visual effects that bring Everett's ever-present flames to life. Our goal is to start production in August, so we don't have much time! Will you help by contributing whatever you can now?

A more detailed breakdown of the budget will be released shortly.

About Nathan Weinreich, the Writer/Director:

Nathan Weinreich is an aspiring writer/director currently studying screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University. His work both on and off of film sets have inspired him to bring his own writing to life on screen. Nathan's experience behind the camera includes everything from producing to working on the camera team, and while he has had plenty of experience directing, this will be his largest endeavor yet. His directorial debut, Anaphora, premiered at the Malco Studio on the Square in Memphis, TN in 2014, and his feature-length version of the script is currently being polished. Nathan hopes to spread his love for art cinema through his work, while maintaining an entertaining and compelling story with relatable characters. He projects a piece of himself in every bit of writing he has ever put to page, and thus he hopes to share his own emotions and views through the characters he conveys.
