Sadly, Ileana has had critical relapse, so she and our family need your help!
In September 2012 my wife Ileana began feeling quite sick.
She went into cardiac arrest, and we almost lost her. After 4 months in a Puerto Rico hospital, in April 2013 she was not getting any better. God helped me find a way to take our family from our home in Puerto Rico to Boston, Mass.
After almost 11 months in Boston, where the Marathon bombing created chaos in the medical community, and Ileana's condition worsened after a CANCER diagnosis, her doctors decided that her only chance of survival was in specialized treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ.
Many tests and procedures there, it became clear that she needed a Heart Transplant. She was put on the B list, but two weeks later she suffered another cardiac arrest, she jumped immediately to the A list. God was with us still and on May 25, 2014 she had heart transplant surgery. It was a tough day for me and my two children, 7 and 4 years old, but she came through it and entered years of medication, reaching 20 pills a day. The other good news was that her cancer appeared to be in remission.
Then, in the spring of 2020, her CANCER came back. She has had 13 rounds of chemotherapy, is fragile, weak, and very, very scared. We have just learned that, within the next month, she needs a Bone Marrow Transplant.
She is only 48 years old and wants to see her son and daughter, 13 and 10 now, grow up.
WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP!
Unfortunately, this will be extremely difficult for us financially given the extraordinary cost and mayor impact on our income.
(The cost of a bone marrow transplant, and resulting hospitalization and medications, is approximately $800,000. Our insurance covers only 80% and we must come up with the other $160,000.)
Please help Ileana to have that chance to watch her children grow up, and for our family to continue to have a mother and wife to love and care for.
