ACL Surgery Cost for Isabella Anes

Donation protected
Isabella Anes is a 17-year-old high school student-athlete. She was born and raised in Venezuela and emigrated to North America when she was 15 years old to pursue her dream to play basketball in college. Since she was a little girl, basketball has been her biggest passion. For her, it’s a sport that builds up one’s character and teaches lessons that go beyond the court.

Having the chance to play at the highest level of basketball in the US while receiving a great university education became her dream. Since then, she participated in regional and national tournaments, and eventually, got to represent Venezuela in several international championships.

This past summer, she joined Canada Elite which is an AAU program that travels to US for basketball players to showcase their talent and get recruited. Unfortunately for Isabella, she suffered torn ACL and Medial meniscal tear.

Because she is a recent immigrant in Canada, she is considered a non-OHIP patient and cannot find any insurance coverage. Her family is facing limited financial situation due to current crisis in Venezuela. However, Isabella hopes that this injury and financial limitation do not become the reasons for ending her basketball career.

Cost of ACL reconstruction surgery for a non-OHIP patient is about $13,000 which is a lot more than what Isabella and her family can afford. She currently attends J. Addison School in Markham in hopes of recovering to pursue her dream again. This is a minor setback for a major comeback. I hope many of you support Isabella and her journey to reach her goal of being a basketball player and getting university education.
