Anyone who knows me knows sitting still isn’t really my thing.
I’ve spent most of my life sprinting down football (soccer) touchlines, hiking mountains, boxing, skiing, training in the gym, and finding reasons to keep moving. Whether it’s football, work, or life, I’ve always been happiest when I’m on the go.
On 8th March, five minutes into a huge game against Southampton, I suddenly had to put the brakes on.
I was sprinting towards goal when my knee gave way.
What I thought was a minor injury turned out to be a complete ACL rupture, a partial MCL tear, and damage to my medial meniscus.
In an instant, the things that had always come naturally became difficult.
The injury came just weeks before my final university exams. Instead of focusing solely on finishing my degree, I was juggling hospital appointments, rehabilitation, and learning how to navigate everyday life with a serious knee injury. Working long shifts in hospitality became painful, hiking and training were no longer possible, and even simple things like shopping or climbing stairs became a challenge. During those first few weeks, my sister even took time away from work to help me get around, attend appointments, and manage day to day life.
The hardest part hasn’t been the pain.
It’s been losing the freedom to do the things I love and watching from the sidelines while life carries on around me.
Despite missing the final months of the season, I still finished as my club’s top goalscorer and the second highest goalscorer in the league. I’ll never know what the rest of the season might have held, but I do know how difficult it was watching from the sidelines as my teammates went on to win the league and secure promotion to the FA Women’s National League, the highest level in the club’s history. I couldn’t be prouder of them, and I can’t wait to be back on the pitch contributing to this exciting new chapter.
After months of waiting, I still don’t have a surgery date. I’ve made the difficult decision to pursue private treatment. The funds raised will go towards surgery, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy, helping me get back to football, back to the life I love, and back to moving the way I always have.
Thank you for reading, sharing, or donating. Every contribution means the world to me and brings me one step closer to recovery.
