Hi!
I am raising money for my dog, Coco’s, care.
An Amazon wishlist is also posted below.
Any help is so greatly appreciated.
Here is his story:
Coco suddenly became paralyzed on 9/22/2022. We believe he suffered a stroke in his spinal cord, which is relatively common in large dogs. He had just gone on his daily walk, and when he returned home he suddenly fell to the ground, unable to lift his back end or bear weight on his legs. I rushed him immediately to the emergency vet. My thought was he had a fractured leg or a torn ligament. Unfortunately, it was much worse. The vet informed me that Coco appeared to be paralyzed from about halfway down his back to his tail. He was not feeling any deep pain or sensation in his back limbs. His prognosis to walk at this point was 50/50, but much care was needed. I was quoted $14.000 for a preliminary bill. This included an overnight stay, an MRI to evaluate his injury with a neurologist, and any subsequent surgery that would be needed. Without a second thought, I handed over my card and paid my entire savings towards my beloved pet.
I received a phone call from the vet neurologist after Cocos MRI was completed. The bad news continued to get worse. He informed that Coco had most likely suffered a stroke in his spinal cord, encompassing about a foots length of his spine. There was no surgery to increase his chance of walking again. His odds of walking decreased to about 5%. He would not be able to control his bladder or bowel movements. The only thing that *may* heal Coco, is time.
At 2.5 weeks post injury, caring for Coco has been very intense. He requires care around the clock. He must wear diapers, and I must manually express his bladder every few hours. Since Coco is used to sleeping in bed next to me, I have moved to the living room floor alongside him to sleep. He is 100lb, so moving him around is extremely difficult. I have taken much time off of work to ensure he is not home alone while we transition to this new normal. I have spent over $10,000 of my savings to care for my best friend, my beloved pup. He is undergoing chiropractic care multiple times a week in hopes he will regain some function in his legs. At this point, Cocos only form of movement would be in a wheelchair, or custom made cart. This costs upward of $1200. I have exhausted all of my savings and maxed out my credit card purchasing all of his newly needed supplies.
Please consider donating to help Coco walk on his own again. Coco is innocent and does not deserve any of this hardship. i am devoted to making sure he lives the best life possible with his new disability.
- I also have an Amazon wish list to help with Coco’s supplies. Please consider making a donation in this way. Coco’s Amazon Wishlist
