Hello,
My name is Elliott McCluskey, this year, I will be running the London Marathon for Achilles International, but not alone.
I will be guiding Chris Blackabee (Please see link below), a Visually Impaired (VI) runner I met through Achilles training sessions. What started as shared miles on a track, turned into something rather special when Chris asked if I could guide him at London. I did not hesitate for a second.
We will be tethered together for 42km (26.2 miles), communicating constantly, moving as one through crowds, and chaos. Its challenging, humbling, and the biggest privilege I have had as a runner.
Chris brings grit, humour, and pure love for running. Achilles made it possible for him, and so many others, to experience events like the London Marathon safely and competitively. That is why I am fundraising for this great charity.
Achilles International exists to break down barriers in sport. Achilles supports athletes with disabilities to take part in running events, not as a token gesture, but as competitors, teammates, and equals. Achilles provides training, guides, community, and the quiet confidence that comes from knowing you belong on the start line.
Your contributions will make a significant impact in helping Achilles International continue its vital work. Here are just a few ways your donations will support their mission:
- Offering weekly training sessions and events with trained volunteer guides, through their 62 chapters around the world that foster community and personal growth
- Providing adaptive sports equipment to enable participation in various athletic activities.
- Provide access to racing opportunities
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to creating more opportunities for athletes with disabilities. Let's come together to support this amazing cause!
