Achieving My Imagineer Dreams: Go to Precollege

Hello! My name is Maty. I'm a 17 year old Junior in high school.

From the day I was born, the magic of Disney has surrounded my life. It’s this magic that has inspired me to want to be a Disney Imagineer. Imagineers bring art and science together and create ideas and innovations to make you feel like you have been transported to another world, just like I feel each time I have the opportunity to visit one of the parks.

Being able to bring my love of creating art, my passion for science, and my ability to think outside the box to inspire imagination and create memories for millions of people is my dream, but it won’t be an easy path. It will take years of schooling and several degrees, but I am ready to tackle the journey!

During my summers I volunteer my time to my community. Last summer alone I volunteered over 109 hours with a local show called The Pageant of the Masters. I have maintained a GPA above 3.5 and remained on the Principle's Honor Roll list since the 6th grade. I have also had the opportunity to work on three drama productions with my high school, where I worked in set design, sound, and fly systems. I have been an active member of my school's band since 4th grade playing clarinet, percussion, and mallets.  I am also a part of my school's drumline and am privileged to hold the title of band vice-president.

My hard work thus far has enabled me the amazing opportunity to attend a month-long pre-college course through Pratt Institute over the summer. Their program focuses on four classes: Introduction to Foundation of Art and Design, Art History, Portfolio Development, and a concentration. The concentration focuses on what you want to specifically study. I have my eye on Digital Arts: Art and Technology, which in Pratt's words focuses "on creating physical, interactive art objects that possess visual, kinetic, and sonic qualities."

Tuition, including fees, deposits, housing, and a meal plan: $6,394.00
Estimated round trip flight: $800.00
Estimated materials: $600.00
Estimated off campus transportation and meals: $200.00

I need help to fund this costly opportunity. Any donation would help me get closer to my goal and would be incredibly appreciated.

In the words of Walt Disney,
“If you can dream it, you can do it.”

Thank you for reading my story,

Maty Carlson :)
