Our beloved sweet Acey boy has injured himself yet again. Three years ago, he tore his ACL and we were fortunate to find a successful, more affordable surgical option. Thankfully, it worked, especially since larger dogs aren’t usually candidates for that procedure.

Ace is still as big and lovable as ever (just not overweight anymore) and he’s now torn his left ACL. The vet said this is, unfortunately, very common for his breed. This time, a lower-cost option isn’t possible. He will need a TPLO surgery, a procedure with a high success rate, but a very high cost.

Without this surgery, Ace would not be able to live the active, joyful life he loves. I am sure many of you have seen Ace sunning his belly and rolling around on his back, tis a sight! We would have to limit his movement significantly, keeping him from wandering around outside and manage his pain long-term with medication. There’s also a real risk of re-injuring his right leg, which could eventually leave him unable to walk at all.

I feel like there’s no real choice here but to help our boy heal. Ace still has so many happy, healthy years ahead of him and as many of you know, he is such a special part of our family. He's the best and also extremely cute. He’s been with us since before Forrest was even born.

This isn’t typically my style but I’m reaching out to our community for support. Over the past two years, I’ve been in school pursuing my California teaching credential, while also completing an unpaid practicum. I’m working hard toward a better future for my family but it has made finances tight and debt higher than usual.
