Accountability from We Wai Kai First Nation
Donation protected
I am a We Wai Kai First Nation band member. I am a 623, which means I have lineage and ties to the Cape Mudge Indian Band.
My name is Jamie Bryant. I’m of mixed ancestry, Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ, European, and Polish. The daughter of Pauline Bryant, granddaughter of Gertrude Nye, and great-granddaughter of Pauline Assu. I’m also a mother of a 6-year-old and an Indigenous social work student at the University of Victoria, deeply committed to creating meaningful change for our people.
I’m reaching out to ask for your support as I, alongside other community and band members, work to demand truth, transparency, and accountability from the leadership at We Wai Kai First Nation. Our efforts are especially focused on concerns surrounding the treatment of staff at the Tsa-kwa-luten Healing Centre, as well as broader issues involving the Nation’s operations and businesses.
This is not an easy journey. Holding systems accountable—especially those close to home—takes courage, time, and resources. We are in need of financial assistance to help cover legal costs, including:
- Filing fees
- Preparation of affidavits and evidence
- Printing and copying
- Other necessary legal expenses
While I know that many people are facing financial strain, even a small contribution can go a long way. If you’re able to donate—whether it's $5, $50, or $500 — know that you are helping to uplift a grassroots call for justice and healing within our Nation. If you’re unable to give financially, sharing this post is also a powerful way to help.
*Donations can be made anonymously if preferred.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with us. Together, we can help ensure our Nation lives up to the values of respect, accountability, and care for all our members and our community as a whole. We all deserve support on our healing journey.
