EDIT 7th February 2025

He did it! He's officially on the Transplant list with St Vincents in Sydney!!!!

We still appreciate any and all help right now. It would be hugely appreciated.

Hi everyone, my name is Karen,I am Kanes wife, and caregiver.

2 years ago my husband fell ill with what was at the time just a common cold. We didn't realise this common cold would be the beginning of a very traumatic and stressful health decline in my husband and his heart.

Over a period of 3 months, he would experience 7 cardioversions to try and revert his heart back into a rhythm. A pacemaker inserted, which would normally be a procedure that is done while you are awake, and you're usually good to go home that same day. He ended up in an induced coma by the end of it. From there is was continual emergency trips to hospital with Kane being fluid overloaded and not being able to breathe. By September of 2021 we were told Kane would need a Heart Transplant. However upon doing the work up, he was rejected for listing. Kanes Pulmonary function was just far too weak, but immediate intervention was needed to save Kanes life.

He was emergency mediflown by The Royal Flying Doctors from Adelaide Australia to Melbourne Australia (9 hours away from our home state) There he would have emergency surgery to implant a Mechanical Heart, known as a BIVAD. He spent 9 days in an induced coma due to complications in his healing and progression. His Kidneys completely shut down, and he would also be placed on continual, then intermittent Dialysis until they decided to hopefully wake up. (They did once he was back in Adelaide) He would then spent a further 2 months in Melbourne away from his family fighting for his life and recovering in rehabilitation. We were unable to be there at the time due to Covid rules and state by state lock downs. I ran a go fund me at the time to raise funds to assist with medical costs that would need to be covered when Kane got home, as well as helping with future trips, and accommodation.

UPDATE AND EDIT 1/12/2024

Alot changed! Alot has happened!

For 3 years Kane fought back and Forth for Transplant, going through all kinds of tests, reached levels that 'were never good enough' but actually were. Got listed, and after 9 months of listing and 6 months of antibiotics, was constantly

unwell, so ended up in emergency one night at 2am. Needless to say after months of being unwell, Kanes mental Health was also shot. He explained this to the nurses at the hospital and the Cardiologist, who then reported

this to Melbourne. Melbourne Kicked Kane off the Transplant List

due to Mental Health Decline. I demanded an instant Transfer of all of Kane files and care to St Vincents Hospital in Sydney. Over the last 4 months, we have travelled to Sydney

3 times to complete assessment and be approved to be taken on by their team. Kane was given a set of tasks to do, and he did them. They accepted him! We just got back from another trip to Sydney, which was a work up trip to see if Kane was eligible for Transplant. The process has begun all over again! and ofcourse has been and will be financially costly. We go back in a month again! Our last trip was $250 per night, due to last minute hospital notice and lack of availability! And its Sydney! The heart of!

We are mentally, phsyically and financially exhausted. So any help is continued to be appreciated. Hopefully soon this will all just be one big dream.

I am so sorry its taken so long to update. It has been one hell of an emotional roller coaster.

Kane is hanging in there. He has had some up and some bad down moments. But he is back up again and fighting.

Please help my family by contributing to our Go Fund me. A little can go a long way. Sharing helps immensely. It broadens the audience, as we certainly don't have a large community ourselves.

Thankyou so much Karen and Kane
