Life’s lemons in the form of broken bones

THE GOOD: We are alive. On August 17, 2019 my girlfriend Amanda and I were struck by a car while on the motorcycle and sustained broken lower left legs, infections and the need for plastic surgery for damaged tissue. She suffered a broken ankle and fibula with tissue damage and I suffered a compound fracture of the tibia, a broken fibula and tissue damage. Head, neck and back are fine and for that we are extremely fortunate.
THE BAD: While we have medical insurance through IATSE 478 and her respective union, motorcycle insurance and the at fault driver had insurance unfortunately it was just “state minimum.” While in the hospital between surgeries I have found that we have no short-term disability benefit through our local and I will be out of work for the foreseeable future leaving me with no income and a potential financial hardship. (Amanda does have short term disability through her union so that helps tremendously)
THE UGLY: At this point there is a chance that she may lose her leg below the knee and I run the same risk in the event they can’t achieve a successful tissue transplant. We still have a couple surgeries scheduled next week in addition to two weeks of hospital stay upon successful transplant so long as there are no complications.
I understand that sometimes it’s just your turn in the barrel and it was suggested that I put together this GoFundMe in order to help while we are recovering. It’s going to be a long road ahead for us and this time of year is already difficult to find work. I’m not owed or deserving of anything from anyone in this world but kindness, a phone call or a visit is always welcomed. Thank you for your time and understanding.
