Dear friends, family, and supporters,

In August 2024, our dad, James Scribner, was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease).
What started as a medical concern escalated quickly, and at one point doctors told us he may only have hours to live. He fought through that moment, but not long after, we received the diagnosis that would change everything.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects muscle function impacting the ability to walk, speak, eat, and eventually breathe. There is no cure, and the progression is different for everyone. It’s something you learn to take one day at a time, adjusting as things change.

The past several months have been difficult, but they’ve also shown us just how many lives our dad has impacted.

If you’ve been around this community, you’ve likely heard his voice announcing football, basketball, volleyball, and softball games. And long before that, he was a radio DJ, so being on the mic and using his voice has always been part of who he is. Beyond that, as a devoted husband, loving Father, constructive coach, and some may even say the smartest guy in the room, he’s always been one to challenge the status quo, pushed for consistency, and show up for others.

To support him through this, we are raising funds to help cover the ongoing costs that come with ALS, including:
  • Medical equipment and in-home care needs
  • Accessibility modifications to support daily living
  • Treatments, therapies, and care not fully covered by insurance
  • Transportation and travel related to frequent medical appointments

ALS is sometimes referred to as “the bankruptcy disease” because of the long-term financial strain it can place on families. If you want to learn more about the disease I linked some additional information under the photos.

If you are able to donate, which we know is not a small ask, please know you are helping not only financially, but physically, and mentally as we prepare for the battle ahead. Even if you are able to share this page or reaching out to our dad with a message or memory means just as much.

ALS can rapidly change, there is no timing or knowing. If you want to join James and his family May 10th at The Friendship Fountainfor the fight against ALS please click on the link here

He’s spent years being a voice in this community, pushing people, and showing up for others... Now we’re hoping to rally that same community around him.

Thank you for being here. It truly means more than we can put into words.

With love, grace, and gratitude,
The Scribner Family
