Accessible Van for Hansy

Donation protected

Hansy was born a healthy boy, full of life and with so much to look forward to. Everything changed a little after his 2ndbirthday. It all started with a high fever and 48 hours he was in coma. E71 virus is what they call it, snuck into his brain through his nose and damaged the vital parts responsible for breathing, swallowing, heart rate and blood pressure regulation, pretty much the things that kept humans alive. I watched day in and day out as they try to save my son’s life. Some days are bearable, and some are extremely difficult, there are days where he looks like he is sleeping peacefully and resting and there are days where doctors come in and out because his little heart is on the verge of giving up. Hospital was home for many months, but my little fighter pulledthrough, 2 months in a coma and he woke up. Moving to the ward from the ICU was a cause for celebration but the road to recovery is very long and the journey there will test every fibre of my being my faith to God and my courage as a mother. My healthy boy is now bed bound, on a ventilator unable to speak, swallow and move.

Fast forward to 5 years later. Hansy is now 8 he is still on a ventilator he still need care 24/7 but he can now move his legs and his arms a little. He can communicate through blinking, stomping his legs, grunting and most importantly he learned to say “mama” again. He now goes to school with a nurse beside him. It may not seem like progress but coming from a comatose patient, to little to no movement to being able to hold his legs and kick it is progress for us. Albeit, still on a ventilator, wheelchair and still need suctioning every 2 hrs, NG tubed and walks on a frame we are lucky to see him alive and fighting.

I created this page because Hansy is growing it is incredibly hard for me to take him to activities as simple as going to family member’s house. I have to carry him out of his wheelchair and lift him up to his booster seat, this is always a 2 person job because someone has to hold his ventilator while I settle him in the car. After that I then have to disassemble his wheelchair load this to the car along with his other medical equipment’s and emergency bag. I also now have a toddler. It is not everyday that I have someone to help me, so outings are getting really difficult for me physically and for Hansy. He misses out a lot because of this. Taxis that are handicapped friendly costs a lot of money so now we choose to do outings either when Hansy has a carer or for the most part he stays home. That is not what I want for my child, I want to take him out to the park to the beach to grandma’s birthday celebration at a restaurant. I want him to part of the world not just in it. With your help we are going to be able to fund a car that is modified that is our own disable friendly car specifically for hansy. We’re aiming to purchase the car on May, hopefully we going to have the modify car before December. Find it in your heart to help him be as normal as he can be and experienced the outside world.

End date will be June 2019. Hoping to reach the goal before June. Spread the love guys, Keep sharing
