Accessibility Home Renovations for Raymond Marion

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Christeena, and I am starting this Fundraiser to support my sister Charlene Stuart and her husband Raymond Marion. About 7 years ago Raymond was a hard-working individual working for a Construction company as a skilled laborer a job which he loved. One day in May of 2017 he had to leave work due to illness and sadly he would never return. It was not known at the time exactly what was wrong and took the next 2 years to finally diagnose him with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, this was devastating news. Most of you have probably heard of MS but what does Primary progressive mean, well it means once the onset of the disease is noted there are no relapse periods it just gets progressively worse from that point forward. They have been navigating this new path in life the best they know how; it has not been easy but are taking it one day at a time. This truly has become a struggle every day. They have had to make some huge changes in their day-to-day life and have done the best they can to make it as normal as possible while everyday there is a new challenge.

Raymond's mobility has drastically declined over the past 2 years. They have been working with occupational therapy on getting him all the mobility aids to help him keep some independence, this includes an electric wheelchair. The wheelchair is going to give him back some independence which he so desperately needs.

The reason I come to you today is that Raymond not only needs the mobility aids but the home that they bought together, and love is not equipped for someone with such a diminished mobility. They so desperately want to stay in the home they know and love. Their world is being turned upside down every day that it would be so devastating if they also must move. There are some very costly renovations that are needed. Things like a stair lift to access their bedroom and bathroom upstairs. The bathtub needs to be converted into an accessible shower. They also need to have doors widened and some walls taken out on the main floor so the wheelchair and Raymond can move around more easily. That is what your donation will make possible.

Raymond and Charlene struggle each day with this debilitating disease. It takes away so much, things that we all take for granted. I just hope that we can at least give them the one thing that they want above anything else, to stay in their home. Thanks so much for allowing me to share their story and appreciate you taking the time to read and share.
