Partner with Assist for an Accessible Van

The Assist Ministry is an outreach ministry of Falls Baptist Church in Menomonee Falls, WI. For over 35 years we have endeavored to serve people with disabilities, their families, and their communities. This outreach provides a message of hope, as we minister to this group through our many programs, respite services, fellowship, and educational opportunities.

The ability to provide safe, reliable, and ADA-compliant transportation is a foundation for any ministry serving people with disabilities. Accessible transportation is critical to continue serving this precious population, which has an ever growing transportation need. Most families and group homes we serve have very limited transportation capabilities, and because of this, they are severely restricted in how and what types of activities they can participate in. COVID and the labor crisis have had a particularly devastating effect on this group of people. Many more remain shut in. With your help, we hope to be able to be a beacon of light into their lives, to show them that they are not forgotten, and to be able to offer more services to them, their families and this community.

Currently, we do not have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. In addition, the vehicles that we do have are not what the ADA would consider compliant transportation. They do not have basic accessible requirements like hand grabs, low step in height, wider aisle; let alone a wheelchair lift. In fact, we must use a common plastic step stool to help them get in and out of existing vans. We also do not have a vehicle which is dedicated to the Assist Ministry, to be available when needed. This would allow us to have better availability to serve the needs of this community as they arise.

We are asking you to join us in serving this community. We are seeking to purchase one to two wheelchair-accessible vans. These vans will have flexible floor configuration to accommodate a variety of needs and disabilities. A new vehicle will likely cost close to $ 80,000. However, vehicles like these will unlock numerous opportunities, enabling us to serve a broader range of needs.

Think of the positive effect your contribution can make to their lives, and to the one's who care for them. We need you help to grow this ministry. Jesus said, "inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me." Mt 25:40.
