Introduction
Dear Supporters,
I would like to share my daughter’s story with great humility and sincerity. Her health journey has plunged her into a difficult reality—often invisible to others, yet profoundly debilitating on a daily basis. She is living with severe Post-COVID syndrome and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS).
This illness, which remains poorly understood, has completely turned her life upside down.
Today, her condition leaves her housebound and bedridden for more than 23 hours a day. At present, there are no officially recognized or effective treatments available in our country.
The purpose of this message is to explain her extremely challenging health situation, the innovative treatment options available abroad, and the hope that still remains.
Despite everything, I believe that improvement is possible, and I dare to hope that you might help her take this crucial step forward.
Her current medical condition
Since contracting COVID-19, she has suffered from severe and complex symptoms that have become deeply entrenched in her body.
Daily symptoms:
• Post-exertional malaise (PEM): a significant worsening of symptoms after any physical or mental effort, with recovery taking days or even weeks.
• Severe fatigue: overwhelming exhaustion that is not relieved by rest and severely limits daily functioning.
• Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS): a marked increase in heart rate when moving from lying down to standing.
• Muscle pain, especially in the legs, with major difficulty walking.
• Sensory sensitivities: intolerance to light, sound, and touch.
• Cognitive difficulties (“brain fog”): problems with concentration and mental clarity.
• Sleep disturbances.
Impact on her daily life:
• Bedridden more than 23 hours a day.
• Severely reduced mobility; she requires a wheelchair.
• Constant dependence on others for daily activities.
• Persistent pain and profound physical and mental exhaustion.
• Living alone in a dark, silent room.
• Constant uncertainty about whether improvement is possible.
Medical follow-up in Switzerland
She has been treated at the University Hospital Center of our region. The care provided included pacing (energy management), physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychological support.
However:
• No curative treatment is currently available.
• The approaches remain purely symptomatic and have brought no meaningful improvement.
Despite following medical recommendations, her condition has worsened over the years. It is now time to explore additional possibilities.
A glimmer of hope: a combined medical approach
After extensive research, the clinic that convinced us is the Börner Lebenswerk Institute in Tübingen, Germany, whose medical philosophy and treatment model are described on their official website:
Why this clinic was chosen
This centre offers care that truly matches the complexity of her condition. Their approach begins with what has long been missing: taking the time to understand what is really happening in her body.
Through extensive and in-depth investigations, they aim to identify systemic imbalances affecting multiple body systems, rather than treating symptoms one by one.
Based on this global understanding, a personalised care plan is developed. Medical follow-up is structured over the long term, with treatments adjusted according to her response.
Depending on her specific needs, therapies may include:
• Immune and inflammation support
• Gut and microbiome care
• Metabolic and energy support
• Gentle hyperthermia and detoxification
• Regenerative therapies
• Nervous system regulation
• And other complementary treatments
This is not a promise of a miracle cure. It is a realistic and structured path, offering hope for stability, relief, and gradual improvement over time.
The main obstacle: funding
These treatments are not covered by health insurance in Switzerland, and we do not have the personal resources to finance care abroad.
Estimated costs:
• Initial assessment and stay: CHF 6,000–8,000
• Specialized treatments: CHF 10,000–15,000 (in several phases)
• Medical transport and accommodation: CHF 2,000–3,000
• Medium-term follow-up: to be determined
Estimated total for the first treatment cycle: CHF 20,000–25,000.
Your support is precious
This is a message in a bottle—but also a message of hope.
She needs support to get through this critical stage of her recovery. Every donation, every gesture, every shared message is a spark of light in this long tunnel.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your attention, your kindness, and your support.
Given her fragile physical condition, I kindly ask that any further inquiries be addressed to me, her mother.
With all my respect and gratitude,
Patricia Wagia Bühl
