For 65 years the Acapulco Nightclub has been the beating heart of Halifax nightlife.

Opened in 1961 and still operating under the same name in the same location, the Acapulco is recognised as the oldest nightclub in the United Kingdom. This year, 2026 marks a remarkable milestone – 65 years of entertaining generations of people from Halifax and far beyond.

Over more than six decades the Acapulco has created thousands of jobs, sparked countless friendships, and given hundreds of thousands of people unforgettable nights and cherished memories. For so many in our community, walking through those doors has been a true rite of passage into adulthood – a shared experience that links parents, children and even grandchildren.

This is more than just a nightclub. It is a living piece of Halifax history. The Acapulco was already welcoming dancers before man landed on the Moon, before the M62 motorway transformed our region, and before colour television arrived in British homes.

We believe this extraordinary achievement deserves permanent recognition. Working with Halifax Civic Trust and Halifax BID, we are nominating the Acapulco for a prestigious Halifax Civic Trust Blue Plaque. This official marker will stand as a lasting tribute for future generations, celebrating the club’s unique place in the cultural and social history of our town.

Acapulco was founded in 1961 by Ted Turczak and has Operated continuously under the same name, and same location since opening.

Affectionally known as “The Mighty Acca” to Locals.

The full cost of a Halifax Civic Trust Blue Plaque is approximately £650. Every pound you donate will go directly towards funding this application and installation.

Any money raised above the £650 target will be donated in full to the Halifax Street Angels – the brilliant local charity that works on Friday and Saturday nights to keep our streets safe and support vulnerable people in the night-time economy. As a long-standing part of Halifax’s nightlife, we are proud to support those who help look after our community.
