Help Shadow Live a Full Life on Three

Hello,
A little about us:
We are the Dallmann’s; many know us as the crazy animal people
Seth: The patient husband who appreciates his wife’s passion for rescue and animals.
Beckett and Baylor: Our two boys are learning to care for animals and respect them for all they are. They are also the given fetch throwers
Michelle: They passionate animal lover who wants better for our community and animals.
I (Michelle) strongly advocate for animal rescue and have volunteered countless hours to help needy animals. We have helped large animal rescue and small animals. Our family has fostered horses, rabbits, and dogs throughout the years. We have a passion for being the voice for the voiceless.
My family and I recently moved to Hartsville, TN, where we were saddened to see that many dogs and cats roam the streets. It's a heartbreaking situation. To help tackle this issue, I started volunteering at the local animal shelter and advocated for the importance of vaccinating and neutering animals. Our family has also taken shelter dogs on day dates and even fostered them for the holidays. I'm grateful that my family supports my passion, and it has been amazing to see us grow with empathy and compassion for animals. My husband and I aim to raise our boys to treat animals with the respect they deserve and to know right from wrong.
Shadow’s Story~
In October 2023, we were all outside playing and noticed that a brown dog would shadow the perimeter of our property. It would not get too close but close enough for us to see him. He was not neutered, and our young great Pyrenees were not altered yet either. We feel like she lured him into our home. We started to leave him food and water out and noticed he would get closer and closer. He came to the porch to each but would run off once we came anywhere nearby. It took not too long for him to see we were a safe place. Day by day, he would come closer and closer, but he never left. He always stayed close. Then, one day, he walked into the house for the first time all on his own, and we left the door open. He was so scared; you could tell he had never walked on the vinyl floor before. Imagine going ice skating for the first time; that was Shadow. Slowly he started to let us pet him, touch him, and love him. Always hesitant, not fearful, just unsure. I can tell he has been a stray his entire life.
We did not want Willa, our 5-month-old GP, to get pregnant by our new family member. Oh, by the way, he is now ours once he came in and made our property home. Forever. We got her an appointment at the local vet to get fixed so we could be responsible pet owners. We knew it would be more challenging to get him than her at this time. Shadow and Will are best friends.
As the days went by, he joined our routine. He lies on pillows by the warm fireplace and plays with the other dogs. He fits in. We feel he was sent to us by our beloved Callie and Zuka, whom we lost sadly before we moved to TN.
End of November, we took him to Sumner Spay and Neuter to get altered and up to date on all vaccines and, of course, microchipped. We found out he is a healthy three-year-old boy. It’s crazy to think that he has likely been homeless on his own for three years. ☹ Absolutely heartbreaking because he has the purest soul ever. So calm, kind, and docile. He just wants love and is learning how to be loved.

Then our biggest nightmare came about- November 7, 2023, we were at dinner and heard a knock on the door. A man was there asking if we had a brown dog. If so, he wants our insurance information because we are paying for the damage to his vehicle due to him hitting our dog. (There is evidence this was not accidental on his part). Our boys immediately started to cry; I was numb. Seth and I began putting on our winter stuff because it was a cold night. The man just lingered around our property, wanting our information, but all we could think about was if that was our boy and where he was. Was he alive?
The man was not a kind soul, and we finally had to ask him to leave our property and call the cops if that was what he felt he needed to do.
We searched high and low. We searched for miles, Yelling, and pleading for him. Nothing. It was cold. He was injured. Was he alive? We finally had to stop for the night. Our hearts are broken and shattered.
Our sweet neighbors even helped look and keep an eye out. We love our neighbors!
Between Seth and I, I think we got up throughout the night 800 times to see if he came home. Nothing.
Until we woke in the morning, after not much sleep, to find him on our back porch, curled up on the rug.
He limped in with no force on his front left leg—lacerations on his body from being struck by the van and clearly going faster than 20MPH that is the speed limit!
We got him to the vet and found out that he had a fractured pelvis, a brachial plexus tear in the left leg, wounds that needed sutures, and drains were put in to help reduce his swelling. Shadow lost all feeling in his left leg due to damage to his nerves = a brachial plexus tear.
The vet advised to give him time as the swelling goes down in his left leg to see if he will regain nerve connections. He also advised laser therapy for the next several weeks as well.
Now, we know this is not the worst-case scenario as we are thankful, he is alive. But we must admit that we are financially at a point of what can we do. We did not necessarily plan for another dog and then to have almost $3,000 in vet bills is challenging. We know we are stewards of God, and he will Bless us more than belief. We want to do our best by Shadow and give him the best life going forward.

This is why we are reaching out for help, to help Shadow recover and get the amputation surgery that will help him live a fulfilled life. He has a long road ahead of him, but we know that we will do whatever we can to enable him to move forward. We also know that so many of you have invested in his story. We thank you for your kind words and support.
