Kai needs your help!

Hi,

My name is Zoe, and I am organizing this fundraiser for my big brother Kai, who lives in South Africa. My brother is a loving husband, and father of four. Those who know him would describe him as a loyal, passionate, enthusiastic person who loves deeply and would take the shirt off his back to help someone in need. During the pandemic, for several weeks my brother turned his house into a soup kitchen. Kai, along with his family and friends collected food, cooked it, and produced hundreds of meals to feed those in need. He is one of my most favorite people in the world, and now he needs your help.

Two months ago, shortly after his wedding, my brother developed a very rare condition called Guillain-barré syndrome (GBS). Unfortunately, this turned out to be the most extreme case and has left him completely paralyzed. In order to stay alive he requires constant monitoring, and a ventilator to breathe. Fortunately, people often recover from GBS, but the recovery is very slow. Due to the severity of his condition, his recovery will take even longer.

This is why I need your help. My brother has spent the last 2 months in the ICU, he's going to need constant care, and extensive rehabilitation for many months in order to recover. This is beyond his wife's and children's financial capabilities. In South Africa, health insurance only covers regular doctor visits. It does not cover anything of this magnitude. For those of us living in the US, the donation goal may not seem like enough to cover the medical bills of a condition like this, but the exchange rate between the two countries means that your donation will have a far greater financial impact in supporting his recovery.
