My name is Kevin Owens, and I have worked for the Piarist Fathers Province of the United States and Puerto Rico since 1987 and have served as their Development Director since 2006. The Piarist Fathers are a religious order that takes vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and a fourth vow of education, especially to the poor. We have ministries in Kentucky, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Florida, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and Guatemala. We often need to depend on the collaboration and generosity of benefactors to carry out our work. Today I'm writing about our school in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Colegio Calasanz. Let's be honest. Since hurricane Maria, earthquakes, more hurricanes, COVID and a struggling economy, life on the Island has been difficult. Many schools have closed, including Catholic schools. Colegio Calasanz, for over 55 years, has been an integral part of the San Juan community. As many other schools in the area have closed, the Piarist Fathers have chosen to stay and fight to keep the school open for the people of San Juan. From the administration, to the fiercely talented and dedicated faculty, The Piraist Province of the United States and Puerto Rico, alumni, students, families and the local community, we remain steadfast committed to provide a much needed Catholic Piarist education to the people of San Juan.
With the difficulties of the economy, some needed renovations and improvements had to be put on hold. February 22, 2025 Colegio Calasanz will host the Bohemia Fundraiser where proceeds will go to the Colegio Calasanz Elementary School AC Project. COOL DOWN OUR CAMPUS, COOL DOWN OUR STUDENTS. Colegio Calasanz is committed to providing a comfortable and conducive learning enviroment for our students. However our current school economy was unable to keep up with maintenance and repairs. We are launching this $20,000 project to acquire new energy-efficient model AC units. This upgrade will not only improve the comfort of our students and staff in the Island's tropical climate but also reduce the school's carbon foortprint. Your generous support will help us:

- Improve the overall health and well-being of our students and staff.
