My sister and her family need our help!

Dear Family and Family You Choose:

 

We’re reaching out to let you know that we are kicking off a campaign to help my sister Rhonda and my brother-in-law Dean, and we need your help!

 

The past several months have been life changing for Rhonda and Dean. Simply put, my sister is in Stage D heart failure and Dean was recently struck by a pick up truck in a hit-and-run pedestrian v. auto accident.

 

The following is a brief summary of these events that have led to this fundraising campaign:

 

Dean:

On August 13, 2021, Dean was hit by a pick-up truck in a hit and run accident. Dean was life flighted to a trauma center as he had suffered serious injuries. He suffered a fractured spine that required fusion of multiple vertebrae. His spinal cord was also damaged. He had two punctured/collapsed lungs, a lacerated liver, and kidney damage. He underwent four surgeries while in the hospital including surgery to address the "deglove" injury to his right arm. Initially he was unable to move his legs and paralysis was a possibility.

 

I am pleased to report that he is able to move his legs and his treatment providers are confident he will walk again. He currently requires a wheelchair to get around. Originally he was advised that his insurance would cover his required in-home physical therapy. This request was denied by his insurance and he must travel approximately 1.5 hours to the Fort Worth area for PT. He is unable to work and is in the process of applying for Social Security Disability. He has been advised this could take up to 4 months to process.

 

In the meantime, my sister's family has only her income which does not cover their minimum monthly expenses (rent, utilities, food, insurance).

 

Rhonda:

My sister, Rhonda, has a serious heart condition - ACC/AHA stage D heart failure and nonischemic cardiomyopathy. Over the past few years she has had several heart surgeries including valve repair and implanting a pacemaker/defibrillator. Her cardiologist has recommended her for a heart transplant. She is finishing her testing to be placed on the heart transplant list with Baylor University this month. She has numerous medical bills resulting from her hear condition and various procedures over the past several years. She has had to miss blocks of work due to her heart surgeries and ongoing heart issue (Stage D heart failure). This has created financial stress and has made it difficult to pay outstanding medical bills.

 

The Jeffries are in one of the places in life where they need our help to come along side them and show them our love.

 

All of the money raised will go directly to Dean and Rhonda to pay medical bills and help pay their monthly bills (rent, utilities, food).
