Meet Salem, a 6-week old kitten:

Salem was rescued from an abusive household two weeks ago. He was being smacked against walls, thrown to the ground, and drowned.
We were ecstatic when we were able to take him in. We took him in for a routine check up, and were happy to hear everything was fine...
Or so we thought....
Recently, we've noticed his breathing was shallow and seemed to be gasping for air. After taking him to the vet for the second time, the vet informed us 4 ribs were broken (and healed because this injury happened some time ago) and his diaphragm is ruptured.
His intestines have poured out of their proper place and are currently sitting around his heart and lungs making it hard for him to breathe.

Salem with his 8 mo. old brother, Maynard.
Salem needs a diaphragmatic hernia repair, a specialized surgery especially for kittens of this age. After calling numerous Los Angeles County veterinary surgeons, the cheapest option will be around $3,500.
We are aiming to have the surgery ASAP to get Salem healthy.
Salem, Maynard, and ourselves are looking for any donations we can get. Please give what you can, and share with your network if you can't. We only need 150 to donate $20.
