Hola! Soy Natalia, una atleta de toda la vida con grandes metas para el año 2026. En febrero, estaré corriendo el maratón de Kyoto con fines de recaudar fondos para la Asociación de Alzheimer's.

Lamentablemente, el Alzheimer's a corrido rampante por mi familia. He tenido varios familiares que han sido diagnosticados con la enfermada, entre ellos, mi bisabuela, Naida Llompart, mi tío abuelo, Carlos La Costa, y más recientemente mi abuela, María Luisa "Abu" La Costa González.

De chiquita vi cómo la enfermedad afectó a mi bisabuela. En aquellos tiempos, no entendí muy bien la forma que la enfermedad puede drásticamente cambiar a una persona. Todo lo que recuerdo de mi bisabuela era la forma que era con Alzheimer's, así que normalicé su comportamiento en mi cabeza. Algo similar ocurrió con mi tío abuelo, Tío Carlos, aunque él sobrevivió mucho más con la enfermedad. En los últimos años, he visto cómo el Alzheimer's ha afectado a mi abuela. Mi abuela - bellísima persona, de mis cheerleaders, quién siempre me empujó a ser la mejor versión de mí - en muchas ocaciones ni me reconoce hoy en día. Su deterioro mental en los últimos años me ha dejado atónita.

Por eso, le dedico mi corrida en este maratón y espero recaudar fondos para esta fundación. Sus contribuciones directamente apoyarán iniciativas vitales que impulsan la investigación y educación de la enfermedad y mejoran la calidad de tratamiento de personas afectadas.

Cada dólar que dona ayuda a la Asociación de Alzheimer de maneras extraordinarias:

* Acelerando la investigación mundial para descubrir nuevos tratamientos y estrategias de prevención.

* Proporcionando recursos esenciales y apoyo a las familias que se enfrentan a los retos del cuidado de la demencia.

Hi! I'm Natalia, a lifelong athlete with big goals for 2026. In February, I'll be running the Kyoto Marathon to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association.

Unfortunately, Alzheimer's has run rampant in my family. I have had several relatives who have been diagnosed with the disease, including my great-grandmother, Naida Llompart, my great-uncle, Carlos La Costa, and more recently my grandmother, María Luisa “Abu” La Costa González.

As a child, I saw how the disease affected my great-grandmother. At the time, I didn't fully understand how it could drastically change a person. All I remember about my great-grandmother was how she was with Alzheimer's, so I normalized her behavior in my mind. Something similar happened with my great-uncle, Tío Carlos, although he survived much longer with the disease. In recent years however, I have seen how Alzheimer's has affected my grandmother. My grandmother—a beautiful person, one of my cheerleaders, who always pushed me to be the best version of myself—often doesn't even recognize me nowadays. Her mental decline in recent years has left me stunned.

That is why I am dedicating my run in this marathon to her and hope to raise funds for this foundation. Your contributions will directly support vital initiatives that promote research and education about the disease and improve the quality of treatment for those affected. Every dollar you donate helps the Alzheimer's Association in extraordinary ways:
