My name is Sarah Anindo Marshall!! I live in the Los Angeles area. I am a Kenyan born artist - teaching and performing. I teach dance (Dunham Technique, African, African Jazz and Modern) at Debbie Allen Dance Academy (for 20 years), USC, LACHSA nationally and internationally. I have an all-female band ADAAWE (international women) - adaawemusic.com.
I am planning on building a performing arts school (Academics and The Arts), in Mumias, Kenya - My homeland. It is named after my father Johnston Likokhe Abukutsa who passed in 1995. It will be a Day school and a Boarding school. It will be a Green Clean School - bio fuel, solar, wind technology, we will bore holes for fresh water from mother earth, composting, recycling. The need is dire – we will give as many scholarships as possible – no child will be turned away…
We will teach:
Academics: Mathematics, English, English Literature, History, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Social Studies, Journalism.
Arts: Music, Dance, Theater, Musical Theater, Visual Arts, Cinematography, Photography, Media.
Sports: Gymnastics, Equestrian, Football, Swimming, Basketball, Track and Field, Tennis, Badminton, Golf.
We will have a farm with cows, goats, horses, chickens, ducks, pigs etc, organic garden and a clinic on campus that will serve the students, faculty and staff and another part of the clinic will serve the community. It will be a state of the arts school!! Open to children from Kenya, Africa and around the world!!
I am telling you this because we need a village, an army to make this wonderful dream a reality. The best way to ensure we have a stable future for the generations to come, is through our children - teaching them well - no prejudice, compassion for all human beings, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion. We are all one – HUMAN
OUR MISSION:
"Our mission is to provide a learning environment conducive to students formal and informal learning that meets the individual student at his or her level of learning. We seek to serve all students including students with diverse needs in Kenya and around the world, by providing opportunities for them to realize their potential as contributing citizens and life-long learners. In cooperation with students, parents and community, we are committed to helping each student acquire academic and artistic skills, prepare for the world of work, in all areas of the universal work force from the corporate to the entertainment world and while doing so, develop attributes of citizenship necessary in a democratic global society."
We would LOVE to name a building on campus, in your name. We believe in your work, that is always true and compassionate!!
We need to raise funds to build this wonderful school. We started our fundraising campaign last year and have raised about $15, 000.00. Those funds were able to get us registered, pay for architectural surveys of the land and payroll in Kenya.
Our 501c3 nonprofit organization to help in this effort is Marshall Dance Company - All contributions are tax-deductible MDC TAX ID # 20-5665736. We need volunteers, as volunteer opportunities at AAA are endless!! From now till the school opens and beyond...
PHASE 1
This summer – 2019, the plan is to build the perimeter security fence, hire a landscaping company, to cut down the grass, plant trees and flowers and start work on infrastructure. The first building will be three portable buildings
· The office building and three classrooms.
· The Arts building with 2 dance studios.
· Multipurpose Room, with a stage and cafeteria.
We will start with Kindergarten and first grade and grow the school from there, with after school and weekend art classes for older children.
We would love you to help us spread the word!
Sincerely,
Sarah Anindo Marshall
