Hi! My name is Ella, and I am a professional dance educator and freelance dancer currently residing in Portland, OR. I work for an amazing non-profit called The Aspire Project, which strives to bring dance and fitness classes to students who may not normally be able to afford them. We offer outreach classes in public schools, as well as more traditional classes in our studio with tuition on a sliding scale based on the family's ability to pay. I teach ballet, contemporary dance, and yoga at The Aspire Project--up to 15 classes per week. More information here: https://theaspireproject.org/about%20the%20project.
In order to expand my professional skill set as a dance teacher, I plan to attend American Ballet Theatre's Teacher Training Intensive in New York City, August 7-15, 2017. I have already applied and have been accepted to the progam--now I just need the financial resources to make this trip a reality! This would be an amazing opportunity for me to grow as an educator. I care so much about my students, and as many of them are starting to progress in their artistry, I want to ensure that I am providing them with the best technical training that I possibly can. They have so much potential, and I want them to be fully prepared to pursue more elite training and career opportunities in the future, should they decide to move in that direction.
ABT has an incredible training curriculum which incorporates traditional ballet aesthetics with modern science in order to promote the safety and health of the dancers. "ABT’s National Training Curriculum aims to assist beginning through advanced teachers in training dance students to use their bodies correctly, focusing on kinetics and coordination, as well as anatomy and proper body alignment. Artistically, the National Training Curriculum strives to provide dance students with a rich knowledge of classical ballet technique and the ability to adapt to all styles and techniques of dance." http://www.abt.org/education/NTC/ I believe the knowledge gained from this program would be immensely rewarding in terms of my own professional development, and it would also directly benefit my young students as they continue to develop their technique.
The tuition for this program is $1,650, plus a $150 materials fee. These fees do not include housing or transportation. I am currently saving funds from my teaching income and applying for local grants to cover the travel and housing costs associated with this training intensive. Please help me make this goal a reality! I would greatly appreciate any amount of financial assistance you are able to offer.
Sincerely,
Ella
