Hello World, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Abrielle Judge. I was born on May 19, 2022. I’m from Syracuse, NY but mommy had to deliver me in Rochester , NY at strong memorial hospital because I have a congenital heart condition called TAPVR which is a birth defect of the heart in which the veins bringing blood back from the lungs (pulmonary veins) don’t connect to the left atrium like usual. This was found at mommy’s 20 week ultrasound check up.
Once I entered this world, I was breathing on my own, several tests were ran on me to see how my heart was functioning. In which for my condition I was stable. I was also born without a spleen (so I often get infections where I’m always on antibiotics) My organs were found on the opposite side of where they should be (my heart and liver) this is called Heterotaxy. (A rare condition where many organs in the body can be formed abnormally, in the wrong position or even missing.)
I stayed with mommy in Rochester, NY FOR 4 days then was discharged back home on May 23, 2022. We were home for 9 days until my Cardiology appointment. My doctor noticed I wasn’t breathing normally and my liver levels were very high. He immediately sent us back to strong memorial in Rochester. So I’ve been here since June 2,2022…. Several issues have occurred since I’ve been here . I have been diagnosed with new disorders and so far I’ve had 3 surgeries. Since I’ve been back in the NICU I’ve been on a ventilator. I tried to extubate twice and failed (mommy was very scared) several episodes of Bradycardia. I also was diagnosed with bronchomalacia and pulmonary hypertension. The team here in Rochester decided it would be in my best interest to get a trach.
I was trached on august 30, 2022. So far I’ve been ok. Still some episodes of bradycardia, infections still brewing, and through all of this mommy has spent sleepless nights, long days, every day with me. She sings to me , talk to me , and pulls out her phone to make memories with me ….. the doctors and nurses here are so nice. They teach mommy all she needs to know. The staff here sing to me , I’ve done tummy time for the first time the other day. It was great !!! I get FaceTime calls from all my family, all I can do is smile right now. I haven’t cried , cooed or yell since I was 9 days old. ( but boy oh boy when I’m able to make noise , no one will be able to stop me :) lol )
ok so I have an older brother back in Syracuse, NY
He’s in middle school. He stays with family members while mommy is here with me. We really have a strong support system. ( I can’t wait to meet everyone)
I am trying to get transferred home to upstate galisano children's hospital but insurance keeps denying it. My mom haven’t been back to work because she is here with me to make sure I’m ok in Rochester. We are asking for your help because bills still exist, and once I’m stable with my breathing I will be going home with my trach and g-tube with 24 hour care. Also Equipment will need to be purchased. This will shed some light on mommy’s stress. As she continues to stay with me in Rochester to learn trach care, tube feedings, medication administrations and emergency protocols and or staying home bedside with me until nursing staff and she is comfortable to leave home to go back to work.
anything you decide to contribute we really appreciate it .
thank you for taking the time out to read my story.
