Hi! My name is Abria D. Smith. I am a Freshmen Student at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. I love science and I am intrigued by the idea of medicine and possibly finding a cure for disease, like diabetes or cancer.  I plan to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, going on to receive a Master’s degree in Epidemiology. Upon completion of my Master’s degree, I will apply to medical school. 
I was recently nominated to attend the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientist Award of Excellences for the summer of 2017. I will be proudly representing Homewood-Flossmoor High School and the State of Illinois.  This is an exciting opportunity for me, because it gives me a chance to look at medicine through a closer lens.  I will experience a live surgery and be able to actually ask the surgeon questions. 
While this opportunity is great, it is costly and I need to raise funds in order to attend.  The cost of attending this week long event in Boston, Massachusetts, is $2,000. The deadline is April 30, 2017.  I would be ever so grateful if you would contribute to help me raise the money, so I can experience this opportunity of a life-time.  Any amount will help.
