Dear friends and family,

I am reaching out because one of my first generation AVID students is in desperate need of funds to avoid homelessness. Currently, she and her mother are living in a mold-infested location and while that is certainly not ideal, they have very few other options. My student lives with a single mother who works as cleaner though she has not been getting enough shifts and is struggling to be able to make payment. They owe $8000 in back rent and have exhausted all community based resources. They are in desperate need of urgent support. My student has spent her entire childhood with a looming sense of housing insecurity, food shelters, and sharing cramped garages. She was even homeless for a time. Still, she shows up every day to school with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. My hope is to raise enough money to provide them with some immediate relief so they can get back on their feet and avoid an upcoming eviction. My heart goes out to her and her mom and if you ever met this student, you would know why. Any donation, small or large will go directly to her mom.
