Every child deserves to have a fabulous first day of a School....weeks of built up excitement, the back to school shopping experience and picking out that brand new first day of school outfit! Can you remember what that was like?
Well, In the Sacramento area alone we have thousands of children who's first day experience is nothing like that at all. In fact, they dread that first day of school. Why? Imagine if your family couldn't afford to buy you a new backpack and all the supplies that are supposed to be in it? And no new outfit....or shoes. Imagine how that would deflate your confidence and self esteem knowing that you would be one of the only one's sporting last years backpack and supplies...each year thousands of children all across our city get off to a rough start and struggle to build the enthusiasm and excitement needed to have a successful school year. ..
Help us change that for 1,000 local children and their families by helping to fund the First Day program! For the past 6 years local non profit group AboutKidz has been sponsoring low income children to make sure they have everything they need to have a successful school year!
Each child receives:
-A fully loaded backpack (grade specific)
-A brand new school outfit
-New pair of shoes & socks
-Professional hair cut
-Bag of groceries
-A day of celebration at the First Day festival
-Free resources for the entire family.
Students have been selected from 16 different schools within the San Juan Unified School District. Over 600 children were sponsored in 2014 and over 900 chrildren sponsored in 2015. Help us reach 1,000 children this year!
The cost for a child to go through the First Day program is just $65 per child! From Janruary thru June we have raised $42,000 of the $65,000 needed to sponsor 1,000 kids. $30,000 raised through our annual charity golf tournament + $12,000 in School supplies donated through local supply drives.
That leaves us with $23,000 to raise before August 12th. If you feel compelled to make a donation that will impact a child far beyond the first day of School please donate here! Every donation helps. Thank you!
