ABIRAC Contemporary x Venice Biennale
I am Ziggi Golding, the Founder and Director of ABIRAC Contemporary Ltd, based in Jamaica is a newly created non-profit foundation supporting contemporary artists and art professionals from the Caribbean and its diaspora.
This May 2026, we have an opportunity to introduce ABIRAC during the opening week of the Venice Biennale (6–10 May 2026).
Over the past few months, we have been quietly building a community of art professionals of Caribbean artists, curators, museum professionals, and cultural thinkers. The Caribbean region has little infrastructure to create a functioning business of art. Many of the great artists currently in the artworld are artists whose work speaks to the Caribbean culture. Artists such as Simone Leigh, Sonia Boyce, and Issac Julien are considered African American, or Black British yet their work speaks to their Caribbean culture. The narrative of our art is not written from a Caribbean perspective and there is confusion as to what is Caribbean art. ABIRAC plans to change that, by bringing a Caribbean perspective, and by claiming the artists who speak to the unique Caribbean culture, and support the building of the infrastructure to create a functioning art eco system within the Caribbean region.
On the 7 th May, ABIRAC will launch with a panel moderated by Paul Goodwin supported by TrAIN.
Panel:
Alvaro Barrington - Grenada / Haiti
Renee Cox - Jamaica
Edouard Duval Carrie - Haiti
Lavar Munroe - Bahamas
This is a labour of love, and we seek support for funding the things we have to pay for such as accommodation, basic exhibition production costs, transport in Venice.
Your support would be much appreciated and If you are in Venice during the Biennale opening week we look forward to seeing you.
