James 1:27 "Religion that God our father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after the orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
As a freshman in high school, I wanted to go on a missions trip. In June 2012, my grandparents, mom and I left for San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I absolutely fell in love with the culture and the people of Honduras. Since I want to major in Spanish, the language was an instant love for me. On my trip, our group went into the village of San Jose de La Sierra. My mom and I ran a Vacation Bible School for the kids every day, the construction crew built a school, and the doctors and dentists saw hundreds of patients. The day we had to leave was one of the hardest days of my life. I fell in love with so many people in a different country that I will never see again. The second I boarded the plane, I knew that I would one day return. The following three summers, I returned to Honduras. I have totally and completely left my heart in Honduras.
When I came up to Nicolet Bible Institute this fall, I heard of the Schubert family and their children's ministry in Zambrano, Honduras. The second I heard of Casa de Luz, I thought "sign me up!" I had been praying and asking God for wisdom on how to communicate with the Schuberts. Then in mid-November, the Schubert family came to Antigo Community Church in Antigo, Wisconsin on furlough. They showed a video of the kids at Casa de Luz and the whole time I watched it, I cried. I had this feeling I have never felt before and it was God just coming over me saying, "That's where you are going." After the service, I went over and talked to Val and told her that I wanted to be their intern. Val was totally accepting of it and had me talk to her husband, Ed. After I had talked with both of them, I gave Val my email and we have been emailing back and forth ever since. In February, I got offered the internship. I will most likely be teaching/helping teach an ESL class (English as a second language) and working with the kids. I leave for Zambrano in late September and I will be there until May 2017.
I have a heart for missions and wasn't sure about college for next year, but after meeting the Schubert family last November I knew I wanted to be in Honduras. I am so excited to see what God will do in me and through me as I serve the people of Honduras with the Schuberts.
In order for this to happen, I need $7,000. $7,000 will cover my airline tickets, transportation, living expenses and food while in Honduras. What I need even more than that is your prayer. I am not quite sure who, but some famous person once said, “The fuel of ministry is prayer.” Please pray for me as I prepare to head down to Honduras and please pray for Casa de Luz, as Satan is definitely against the work that is going on there. Please pray for wisdom if you are feeling led to support me financially.
