Sports Matter
My name is Luis Falcon, and I am the Dean of Students at Downtown College Prep El Camino Middle School. I serve as the Dean of Students for the same organization that I once attended as a student. One of my many roles as the Dean of Students is to run a sports program for our students that helps motivate them to do well academically. DCP serves students who will be the first in their families to attend college. Many of our families are under-resourced and underrepresented. Because of this, many of our students face daily challenges that stand in their way of academic success. My continued goal is to use sports as an outlet for our students.
As we know, extracurriculars and sports matter, and they help our students find their passion in life. When I was a student at DCP, sports helped me stay out of trouble. They gave me an outlet and an escape from the daily pressures I faced as an immigrant to this country with parents who had to work two jobs to make ends meet. Sports at DCP El Camino still serve that same purpose for many of our students.
These past two years have been unprecedented, and they have caused a tremendous strain on our educational system. Our students and families had to navigate so much, and often with few resources due to their financial status or immigration status. One of the challenges we still face at DCP El Camino Middle School is a budget shortfall for our sports program. We need to raise two-thousand dollars to ensure that our end-of-the-year sports program is successful. And now more than ever, we need to ensure that our students have an outlet for the daily pressures they face, especially as we start coming out of the pandemic.
With just about two months left in school, please help us make sure that we can run a successful soccer season for our boys and girls. Your donation will contribute to ensuring our students are college ready and successful because sports programs are a huge component in ensuring that our students will one day thrive in college and beyond. However, your donation will go specifically towards paying coach stipends, van rentals, league, referee, and sports supply costs. Any contribution goes a long way. We will also be doing other fundraisers, so please stay tune, and thank you for your support in advance
