We have been thinking hard about how to help our parents this past year, and in lieu of a traditional fundraiser we have decided to put a Go Fund me together.  It’s an extremely busy time of the year for everyone, however, we wanted to do something nice for them.  We are hoping this may be a better fit for now.  For the past year our dad, Andy Abfall, has been unable to work, except for a few weeks in the summer. He has dealt with Spine disease for over 20 years now including 2 disectomy/ lamientactomy surgeries. In the beginning of 2019, our dad experienced many undiagnosed dizzy spells, causing nausea and excruciating pain in his neck and head. He started in February with tons of testing including MRIs, Xrays, an MRA, Stress test, blood tests and even testing for cancer.  However, everything kept coming back normal. He has tried acupuncture, physical therapy, medication, chiropractors, and pain management but nothing has relieved his pain and dizziness. As a result of this, he has not been able to work. He is now in the care of an Ortho-Neurosurgeon with the onset of Trigeminal and Occipital Neuralgia and a ruptured C6 disk. Initially surgery was not an option, as he was not experiencing tingling or numbness. Now, he is experiencing numbness and tingling in both hands and losing strength on his right side. Surgery is now needed after visiting a vascular neurosurgeon to confirm he does not have an aneurism. However, the surgeon cannot perform the surgery until January 16th as of right now. We are praying a spot opens up sooner in his schedule, but until then he is just waiting with the help of pain management. The surgery entails a 4-6 week recovery time with physical therapy in hopes his O.N. can be controlled with pain management. None the less it has been extremely difficult on our family, emotionally and financially. Now being home for the holidays from college we see the stress they both are under. Our mom continues to work day, night, and as much overtime available while finishing her degrees in nursing! With this being said, we’ve decided to reach out to friends, family, and the Avon Community. Please consider helping out a born and raised “old school, die hard “ Avonite, an AHS graduate of 1992, and the most hardworking guy we know. No donation is too small. This would be amazing for our family trying to deal with all of this while putting two kids through college and raising a third, who is currently in 4th grade. Please consider helping our family make up for a year of missed second income, help pay for medical bills, and be able to manage in our 4th generation family owned and built farmhouse. It would be such a blessing to see our parents be able to breathe easier during this holiday season and the New Year to come, spend more time with our little brother as we will be returning to school,  and for our dad to focus on recovery after surgery.  This surgery is not the fix but it is hopefully the stepping stone he needs to get back on his feet again.  Prayers Please.

Thank you and God bless.
