Abel’s accident recovery
Donation protected
On July 7 2022 Abel was in a motorcycle accident on I5 in Salem. His motorcycle tire blew, and he was thrown off while trying to slow down to stop. He landed on his left side.
He was brought to Salem hospital with a ruptured spleen, lacerated liver, brushed adrenal gland, collapsed lung, broken collarbone bone and scapula, compound fractures of all his left ribs, and a left ankle fracture.
He had emergency surgery to remove his spleen and went to icu. They had trouble keeping his pain under control the first day and he wasn’t breathing very well, and his blood pressure was low, but they gave him an epidural and medication and fluids and were eventually able to get his pain controlled and his vitals stable.
On the 9th he started feeling a little better and was more aware of what was going on, and that afternoon was able to be moved out of icu and allowed to start having liquids.
Today (July 10th) he’s feeling even better and talking and joking. He’s still in a lot of pain, and has a long recovery ahead but he’s definitely improving.
Abel is the sole income earner in the family, and he will be off work for at least several weeks while he recovers, and even though he has insurance, there will be a large medical bill coming from this.
Any help is very very much appreciated by all of us, whether that be a donation or sharing the fundraiser.
We have had so many offers of help and thoughtful message from friends and family and our whole family really appreciates everyone.
