It is with heavy hearts that we share an update about someone who means so much to so many of us. Unfortunately, on March 21st, while in Ethiopia, Abel suffered a major stroke. The effects have been significant, leaving him with serious deficits and a long journey of recovery ahead. By God’s mercy, he is improving, but his healing will require time, rehabilitation, and consistent medical care. Throughout all of this, his wife and young children have remained by his side, doing their best to stay grounded and present with him during this difficult season.

For those who know Abel, his personality is impossible to miss. He is the kind of person whose presence fills a room with warmth and he is the goofy and familiar face who brings joy wherever he goes. He is a husband, a father of three, and a deacon who served faithfully in the church. Whether here in the US or back in Ethiopia, he has always had a heart for those who are vulnerable, offering help quietly and without hesitation.

We created this page for those who feel moved to support Abel, whether through prayer, through sharing his story, or through practical help. Our hope is simply to give him the resources he needs for his recovery and to allow his family to remain with him without the added burden of having to work or be separated from him during such a critical time. Nothing is expected, and every gesture is received with deep gratitude.
