Abe Needs Power and Help to Avoid Homelessness
Tax deductible
Sept. 2022 Update: Thanks to everyone who donated to help keep Abe cool. He now has basic solar and battery to run a fan and light, and to charge his phone. We had an attempted break-in, but they only reached through the windows and stole flashlights. During extreme heat, we find him alternative shelter. He continues to create his creatures, and we maintain his Instagram: @abedelacerdafolkart
Mojaveland artist and longtime desert dweller Abe Delacerda was evicted from his home in April 2022--it was sold to a developer. Abe had lived there as roommate and caretaker to the owner for 20 years. On a fixed income, with no rental or credit history, he couldn't find housing in a rental market that is mainly vacation housing.
Abe is living temporarily in the Cowboy Dressing Room at Mojaveland, which has no power or water. We want to install a small RV solar system on the trailer roof to give him power to run a fan and charge his phone at night. It is already getting hot in the 29 Palms.
Goal: $2000:
$1400 equipment (solar panels, controller, inverter, batteries, wiring, outlet)
$600 installation
Documentary about Abe:
“King of Dinoland"
