ABC Building Fund
The Alaska Black Caucus (ABC) has found a permanent home!
This year, ABC is finally within reach of acquiring a building where we can serve Alaska’s population of Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC). The new location will serve as a central services facility for our community. We'll have offices, classrooms, and meeting spaces, and the ability to host workshops, conferences, and community events that will provide countless benefits to our Beloved Community.
We need your help!
ABC requests funds for a community investment project that will support the BIPOC community and enable BIPOC-led business businesses and organizations to flourish for years to come. A downtown location will provide convenient access and positions tenants and users for civic involvement and contributing to Anchorage's economic recovery following the pandemic. The facility will include
1) Center for Health Equity;
2) Venue for educational programs and community services, including Community Conversations;
3) Quarterly Black Business Introduction Nights to boost black-own businesses by providing a platform for owners;
4) Security training for BIPOC organizations;
5) Co-working office space below market rate to house other BIPOC organizations and individuals who support the BIPOC community, which generates rental income to support ABC's mission recovering economically from the pandemic;
6) Event and meeting spaces.
This project will support businesses and help the leaders and workers in the BIPOC business community stabilize after the pandemic. The building will become a hub for community work that improves the quality of life for BIPOC people and anyone who support racial equity in Anchorage.
ABC urgently needs the community’s support to make this project a reality. ABC has received a federal grant of $437,500 to purchase a building, and we must raise matching funds to be used toward the cost of the project and operating expenses for the first year. Your gift will help ABC to focus its services on three areas of concern to BIPOC Alaskans: the annual Bettye David African-American Summit that facilitates cross-cultural connections by providing workshops for adults and you; and
1. Disparities in the economic impacts of COVID-19;
2. Disparities experienced by Black Alaskans in access to health care and mental health services; and
3. The need for greater BIPOC participation in decision-making processes in public and private systems.
The Alaska Black Caucus has built a diverse and strategic network of support statewide partnerships, but it is your support that will be critical to securing our building and ensuring the expansion of services in communities throughout Alaska. A gift to this project will benefit BIPOC Alaskans now and in future years.
Please consider making a gift that will help bring equality to all Alaskans.
