Abby's Bucks for Boobies

*11/18/2023 UPDATE*
Abby's liver isn't tolerating the new chemo either. Her liver enzymes keep skyrocketing after treatment and it's put a stop to her chemo for now. She has a liver biopsy scheduled for 11/21/23 to hopefully get a clearer picture as to what's going on. Her oncologist and hepatologist are working together very closely to make a treatment plan that will get rid of the cancer but also won't jeopardize her liver. For now she is feeling incredibly frustrated but hasn't lost her positive spirit. The hard days are hard but she continues to smile and find moments of gratitude amongst the chaos right now.

Hello, my name is Frank Pardo and let me first begin our story by telling you about my beautiful wife Abby Pardo.

Abby is a nerdy, gothic, selfless, bubbly, caring, empathetic, and adventurous woman. Abby has served as an EMT/Paramedic for approximately 5 years in the Lawrence and Greater Boston area. Abby is the type of person to always put others before herself, always lending a hand and helping those in need. Life was going great, until an unexpected turn of events occurred. As Will Smith said from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, "Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down".

Abby was diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma on August 18th, 2023. This was an extreme shock to our family. The doctors explained it spread to the lymph node and was acting very aggressively. The doctors further explained that it would be a benefit for Abby to get a bilateral mastectomy because of having too much diseased tissue damage.

Abby has begun her chemotherapy treatments, has completed one, and has a total of five more to go. Which will occur over the course of four and a half months. Due to the potential and possibility of spreading, Abby will have to endure a harsher variant of systemic chemotherapy on top of the specific targeted chemo. With that being said Abby already has to go to daily radiation therapy treatments for approximately two months after surgery.

Throughout all of the horrible and depressing news, the oncologist and doctors believe the prognosis to be good and confident that the treatments will fair well.

Abby and I normally don't seek out and ask for assistance for anything and normally tackle all obstacles together. However due to the medical bills and expenses beginning to pile on us, we thought a GoFundMe Donation may be useful.

Before insurance, the chemotherapy will be approximately $495,000. That is not taking into consideration for the surgery once completed.

To brighten up the mood a bit, we are asking for everyone to help donate to our cause:

On top of the GoFundMe, our plan is to also design T-shirt's and Police Badge Bands for Breast Cancer Month.

Thank you Everyone, Together let's beat Cancer!

Abby's second treatment was put on hold because her liver function test came back too high. She has to meet with the hepatologist at BIDMC to make sure her liver is ok and can safely handle the chemo she is on so she has more testing ahead. Her team has been wonderful at making sure her overall wellbeing is looked after first and foremost and want to see her succeed but safely so they are already preparing for any changes the hepatologist wants done. She's understandably disappointed but she's just so grateful for her body and her care team. As soon as she gets the green light there is no stopping her from running right to Boston to resume treatment. She's determined to get going again!

Abby and I want to thank everyone that has donated and shared her GoFundMe thus far. We’re almost at $5K and it’s truly humbling. Tomorrow she goes in for her second round of chemotherapy and although I know she’s dreading it, she’s going in knowing she has a whole army that love and support her.

Abby's oncologist got the go ahead to continue with chemotherapy from the liver specialist. He said her liver was in great shape and can withstand the medications. Her oncologist changed the treatment plan so she will be on weekly chemo for 9 weeks and biweekly chemo for 8 weeks after that. She started this new regimen yesterday and is feeling good about the plan. Her tumor has shrunk significantly so they are feeling really positive about her prognosis. Abby has a long road ahead but that doesn't stop her!
