Help Matt during recovery!

Hey everyone,

Sappy post

As stated earlier. I have had my first and fairly devastating accident with a car frontal collision that hit me whilst on my motorcycle.

I was driving straight and at the speed limit in the left most lane. A van pulled into the center turn lane and I made the fast calculation that they would stop to check for cars and that it was safe to continue driving. The van then proceeded to begin a left turn that would take it directly in from of me with 5-15 feet to react. I attempted to swerve out of the way but the van slamed into my side, throwing my bike and myself into a ditch whilst managing to throw me off the bike to be lying down in said ditch.

Adrenaline kicked in and my first instinct was to check my condition. I determined that my left leg was broken. I started calling to cars for help having no idea where the van had gone. Mercifully, the woman who had hit me found me in the ditch and proceeded to call emergancy services. I then called my Mom knowing she would know the best hospital to go to and wanting to have her there should the worst occur.

Arriving at the hospital I was prepped for Xrays. The revelation was that the vast majority of my body was just road rash (albeit some gnarly ones). However my left leg was broken in possibly every place where it could be, including the large femor and a compound fracture, my ankle, My Pelvis but most importantly most of these also suffereed multiple breaks and fractures. I was told Im not going to be running ever again, not going to be lifting ever again, and likely it will take years of PT to fully walk again.

Whilst that news is not ideal, I wanted to thank the overwhelming amount of support outpouring from friends across the states, the continent, even the world at large. It's truely humbling to have so many people offer to help in any way they can from just chatting with me whilst im confined to a hospital bed, to runninging food or offering to play games to distract me, to offering words of comfort or wisdom. In what otherwise might have been an utterly devistating moment I have never felt so loved and it means the world to me.

Thank you, all of you, from the bottom of my heart.
