As you may or may not know, July is National Disability Awareness Month! What you also may not know is that affording disability related equipment is EXPENSIVE! While I have been very fortunate to have the majority of my medical devices covered by insurance, I am currently struggling to finance a back-up wheelchair due to lack of insurance coverage for this device. The particular wheelchair I am looking to purchase is called a “Fold and Go ”. This chair has the unique features of being a foldable, lightweight, power wheelchair! Due to my physical disability, I am unable to push myself in a normal manual chair. The Fold and Go chair will allow me to drive myself independently, but also overcome barriers of mobility and travel! This chair is only 50 pounds, which means that it can easily be folded and put onto an airplane, in the trunk of a car, or be carried up and down flights of stairs! Not only that, but it will allow me the freedom to navigate new spaces without the worry of damaging or bringing along my current (and very heavy) power wheelchair. The Fold and Go chair would allow me the freedom to keep my independence while I continue to be an adventurous person on the go!
I am aware that times are tough for financial contributions, so as a way to thank you, I’d like to facilitate an exchange of goods! Below, I have a list of “premium” items that you can purchase with your contributed amounts! By providing me funds for this cause, I will be creating personalized ways of saying “thank you” with these gestures:
$10 = A video recording of me thanking you for your donation
$25 = A hand written mailed “thank you” note ($30 for international friends - sorry, overseas postage is expensive!)
$50 = A personalized drawing
$75 = A personalized mini song on the ukulele
$100 = A crocheted hat, scarf, socks, or coasters
$150 = A crocheted plushie (either of a Pokémon, animal, or other request)
$200 = A full-length personalized song featuring me on saxophone, keys, percussion, etc...
$300 = Your choice of 3 items listed above (excluding the full-length song)
$500 = A full size crocheted blanket
$1000 = I WILL TATTOO YOUR NAME ON MY BODY!!! (Really! I will… within reason of font, size and area…)

My goal is to reach $3,000, which is the price of the chair (accessories included). Anything we raise OVER $3,000; I will be donating a portion of the funds to my friend Amanda Knightly towards HER fundraiser to afford a wheelchair adapted vehicle! The other portion, I will be putting into my medical savings account to finance future wheelchair, van, or other medical expenses related to my disability. If you’re unable to make a financial donation at this time, I ask you kindly to share this post with your friends, family and community.
