Abby Roux is 18 years old and a 2019 graduate of Archbishop Hannan High School. She was enrolled as a Freshman at LSU majoring in Accounting. Abby came home on Monday, September 30, 2019 to visit her family and catch a Hannan Volleyball Game. That night Abby woke up to a severe headache and nausea. The following morning she went to an Urgent Care and the flu was ruled out, by that afternoon the pain was so bad that she was brought to the ER for a severe headache. A CT scan was ordered and that was where her life and her family's life would be changed. The ER doctor returned to inform us that Abby had an 8cm x 6cm mass on her left temporal lobe. Abby was then transferred to Tulane Medical Center and endured a 10.5 hour surgery on Friday October 4th, 2019 to remove as much of the tumor as possible. The neurosurgeon believes he was able to remove at least 80% of the tumor. Pathology reports finally arrived and the diagnosis is Stage 2 Astrocytoma. Since discharge from Tulane Medical Center one week after the surgery, Abby has been in and out of the hospital 3 times for severe head pains and swelling and as of October 29, 2019 she was admitted for Bacterial Meningitis and is currently being treated with antibiotics.
Abby has a long road in front of her and she is physically, mentally and more importantly spiritually strong. She is ready to take this on. She will be having radiation treatments 5 days a week for 6 weeks and after that will start chemotherapy. We are being told that this tumor will return but we don't know when. She has the support of her family, friends and God, but we have no idea what the future holds. Her plan is to get back into college and continue to pursue her degree. We are asking for whatever help can be given for her current medical expenses as well as the long term care expenses and we are asking for you to pray for a cure for this disease. Thank you for your support and generosity.
