Our beautiful Abby passed peacefully in our arms early morning on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. She was surrounded in love by family who have been forever changed by her kind, compassionate and sincere heart. There are no possible words to describe the grief, sadness and loss we feel.

Abigail Mae was born on February 14, 2008 to Kyle and Jenny (Tuttle) Meeske of Los Gatos, CA. She is survived by her parents and 11-year-old brother, Logan.

Abby’s 14 years brought so much joy and selfless friendship to everyone who met her. Her sweet disposition and quiet confidence became something her friends, her brother, and her teammates on the soccer field strived to emulate. Abby loved the outdoors, animals (especially her chickens and dog), adventures and being in the presence of people who made her smile. She was an amazing artist, a steady model of compassion and patience for her younger brother, and had a love for learning.

Abby was diagnosed in January of 2022 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her chemotherapy treatments were successful and Abby had been in remission since March. While recovering between treatments, she developed an infection her immune system could not overcome. After spending a week with her in the ICU at Stanford, we learned we had exhausted everything we could do to bring her home. Abby’s strength and resilience throughout her treatments was admirable. She was a tough fighter, conquered cancer and was on her way to returning to life as a teenager. She was excited and looking forward to her freshman year in high school. Abby enjoyed playing soccer and was an active member of the Los Gatos United soccer club where she built strong friendships both on and off the field.

Abby was an exceptional student and continued to study regularly while undergoing treatments at Stanford. During her time spent in the hospital and clinic, surrounded by medical professionals, she shared her interest in becoming a doctor someday. She would have shared her story with many patients and families, and undoubtedly built strong relationships others would admire.

We are leaning on each other for support and trying to replicate her grace and love for each other. Abby was a true gift. We plan to continue Abby’s positive impact on the world with the initiation of the Abby Meeske Foundation. The Foundation aims to help patients and families impacted by childhood leukemia and fund the most critical, leading and impactful cancer research to improve outcomes of childhood leukemia.
