Hey everyone! I’m headed back to Mongolia for the 2022 edition of the Mongol Derby.
The Mongol Derby is an endurance race on semi feral, native Mongolian horses. The race extends 1000 km (621 miles) through the Mongolian Steppe and is known as the world's longest and toughest horse race. The course recreates the horse messenger system developed by Genghis Khan in 1224.
The race is hard. You get tired. You get hurt. You get emotionally and physically beat to hell and back. You find out who you really are. You discover your strengths and weaknesses. You discover you.
I competed in the derby in 2019 and sustained a neck/back injury causing me to retire around 450 miles. I am going back in august of 2022 to tackle the race again. The race is still expensive with a hearty price tag of $14,500. That includes use of all horses, “food” (mostly boiled goat and noodles ), support staff, emergency medical and much more. Flights and gear not included.
With your donation your not only helping me, but the Mongolian people. I will be donating a portion of all proceeds to Stepp and Hoof.
Steppe and Hoof is a non-profit organization which has been set up to help herders and their animals in Mongolia. From a total population of 3.2 million Mongolian people, only about 169,000 nomadic families remain today.
