Subject: Urgent Appeal for Financial Support – Abayomi’s Pancreatic Cancer Treatment
Dear Family and Friends,
My name is Kendra and I am reaching out with an urgent request for support on behalf of our dear brother, Abayomi Huria. In August of 2024, Abayomi was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is one of the two most aggressive cancers that requires immediate and intensive treatment, including specific treatments like chemotherapy, surgery, and specialized care. Typically, once diagnosed, and without receiving this aggressive treatment, the life expectancy is five months.
Unfortunately, the cost of medical care, food, supplements, equipment, travel, and necessary support has placed an overwhelming financial burden on Abayomi and the family.
Abayomi is a devoted father of four, loving husband to Crystal, son, brother, and uncle. He is an award-winning multi-media artist, selfless community advocate and volunteer. Abayomi has made a profound impact on the lives of children, youth and families from Washington, DC to countless individuals across the nation and throughout the world. Abayomi is always moved when a former student states that he is the reason why they became a teacher or a poet. It is humbling when a student credits Abayomi as the reason why they became a responsible man and father.
In March of 2010, Abayomi sustained an injury leaving him permanently disabled. It caused a major financial deficit in his household. Despite this challenging diagnosis, the family remains incredibly strong and confident that Abayomi will heal completely. Abayomi has remained resilient and continues to exercise and eat extremely healthily. He is alive after receiving twelve rounds of chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy takes a devastating toll on the body, the least of which being neuropathy, brain fog, and constant dehydration. Abayomi is thriving seven months beyond the cancer diagnosis. However, without financial assistance, accessing life-saving treatment will become impossible.
Maya Angelou once said, “I’ve earned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Abayomi has lived by this truth, always bringing kindness, generosity, and love to those around him. Now, in the family's greatest time of need, our village has the opportunity to return that love and support.
We are reaching out to family, friends, kind-hearted individuals and organizations to help cover the cost of medical bills, medications, food, supplements, equipment and travel expenses, etc. Our goal is to raise a total of $28,000.00 by March 15, 2025. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in affording Abayomi the resources to heal his body completely. Additionally, any support in spreading the word about this appeal would be immensely appreciated.
