This is the heartbreaking and emotional story of Kia, a sweet dog who has endured unimaginable suffering but is now in desperate need of life-saving medical treatment.

Kia’s Abandonment and Rescue:

In November 2022, Kia was found abandoned outside a derelict property in Navan, Ontario, left to suffer alone with no shelter, food, or water. She was in excruciating pain, with swollen paws, raw skin, and a collar so tight it had cut into her neck. It was clear that she had been neglected for months.

Kia was rescued and takrn to a veterinary hospital where she was treated for severe infections and other health issues. She was nursed back to health and, was adopted by a loving family who provided her with the care and affection she had never known.

A Heartbreaking Twist:

Just when it seemed like Kia had found safety, her original abuser appeared and demanded her back. The Animal Welfare Unit conducted an investigation, and despite her history of neglect and abuse, they made the heartbreaking decision to return Kia to the person who had abandoned her in the first place. Kia’s adoptive family was devastated, but they held onto hope that her abuser had “learned his lesson” and would finally care for her.

For nearly two years, they prayed that Kia was being loved and cared for, but in August 2024, their worst fears were realized. A Facebook post pleading for help with two abandoned dogs led to the shocking discovery that one of the dogs was Kia. The rescuer, who found her in horrible condition, was able to step in and offer Kia a second chance.

The Struggle Continues:

Kia was reunited with her adoptive family in October 2024, but the pain she endured over those months took a toll on her health. Kia was diagnosed with life-threatening heartworm disease, a condition that requires expensive and urgent treatment.

The cost of her heartworm treatment is $6,000. Despite already spending thousands on her care, they are determined to give Kia the chance to fully heal and live the life she deserves.
