10-Year-Old Spaniel | Rescued from Death Row | Needs Urgent Surgery

Fleur, a sweet 10-year-old spaniel, came to Colchester K9 Rescue via the dog warden after being found as a stray. She spent time in the pound, unclaimed and overlooked by those who could have helped her. Many stray dogs face euthanasia when no one comes forward — Fleur was one of the lucky few who made it out alive.

But her condition tells a heartbreaking story.

Fleur’s life has been stolen from her.
Used, exploited, neglected — and now, in her twilight years, discarded, unwanted, and abandoned.
She has more years behind her than ahead, but she deserves to live them surrounded by love, not pain.

When Fleur arrived, she was painfully underweight, her body showing the toll of severe overbreeding. Her undercarriage hangs from carrying litter after litter. Her face shows signs of trauma, and she suffers from facial paralysis on one side, leaving her unable to hold her lip inside her mouth. One of her eyes is also less responsive, struggling to blink fully — which puts her at constant risk of eye infections.

While these conditions are manageable with daily care, her mammary tumors are life-threatening and require urgent surgical intervention.

What Fleur Needs
Fleur needs:

Surgery to remove large mammary tumors (some the size of tennis balls)
Spaying to prevent further complications
Extensive dental work — her broken, decaying teeth make eating painful
Ongoing care for her facial paralysis and eye management
We've been quoted £1,200 for her surgeries, which must be done in two stages due to her condition:

Stage 1 (this Wednesday 23rd of July 2025): Spay and removal of tumors on one side
Stage 2 (in 2 months): Dental procedure and removal of tumors on the other side
These tumors are at high risk of rupture and spreading, making surgery urgent. We must act fast — and we need your help to do it.

Fleur: A Fighter with a Heart of Gold
Fleur is the epitome of making the most of her situation. Despite everything she’s been through, she is a happy, affectionate dog who wants nothing more than love, a walk, and a tennis ball to chase.

She’s friendly with every person she meets and still lives for adventure, wagging her tail as she sniffs through the bushes or trots beside you on a walk. Her resilience is nothing short of inspiring — now she just needs a chance.

Please Help Us Give Fleur the Life She Deserves
