Meet Limbo!
Limbo is a beautiful galah who was recently rescued from a property near Perth, WA.
Squatters had been living on the property and collected hundreds of animals. During the massive effort to rescue these animals and get them the vet care they needed. Limbo and another pet galah were in an aviary with wild galahs and Limbo's friend, another pet galah was on the ground of the aviary vomiting and extremely unwell.
Animal welfare workers caught up the wild galahs, Limbo and his sick friend and send them on their way to a licenced wildlife facility. It was clear that Limbo was a pet bird during his health exam and he was separated from the wild galahs.
What else was clear was how beautiful, loving and craving for cuddles this boy was. Even with strangers, he just wanted to give and take love. However sadly some other findings were identified immediately as well, including large life-threatening tumours that are so big they push his legs out at uncomfortable, painful angles and threaten his very existence.
Limbo has been an absolute delight to care for. He's handsome, gentle, living, quiet, always up for a cuddle. But he is in chronic pain and discomfort.
He has been to specialist avian vets for repeat health examinations, blood work, x-rays and to determine if he is healthy enough to undergo surgery or requires a heartbreakingly dignified euthanasia in humane grounds.
But Limbo has surprised us with clear blood work and his strong little body is now healthy enough to undergo an extensive surgery or two to remove the massive tumours and give him back his ability to walk, climb, breath normally and take away the chronic pain.
But this is where we need help! As Limbo is a pet bird and not native wildlife he has been sent to volunteer foster carers.
Please help if you can. Limbo deserves the world and we want to do everything in our power to show this gorgeous bit that he is loved, he will be cared for and we as a community can help undo the wrongs that were done to him at the hands of people.
Thank you so much for reading his story. Please share this story and help spread the word so we can hit Limbo's surgery quote.
Please note that this is for the first surgery and due to the size of the tumours, it's likely Limbo will need multiple surgeries to remove the masses, over the next few months. Bird anaesthesias are always risky and with the added pressure of his older age, his hard life and malnutrition, and the tumours pushing in his vital organs all we can do is find the best vets for the job (check) and cross our fingers and toes for success. Limbo will not be able to life humanely with these tumours so they must be removed.
In the meantime, he is being lovingly cared for by a volunteer foster carer. ❤️
